Webometrics, a ranking system for world varsities, released a list of 260 institutions in Nigeria by web presence.

The ranking is based on a composite indicator that takes into account the volume of the web content as well as the visibility and impact of these web publications according to the number of external in-links (site citations) they received.

UI is ranked number one, followed by CU in second place while OAU came third. Closely following is the University of Nigeria (UNN), which snagged fourth place, while the University of Lagos (UNILAG) took the fifth spot.

80% of top 10 universities are from Southern Nigeria. Only ABU and Futminna managed to enter. Landmark is in kwara, but that's a yoruba community so doesn't count.

Even the best university in Nigeria is not among the best 1000 universities in the world. That tells the poor state of our Educational system but as usual we will keep on celebrating mediocre.
