Interesting thread: https://www.nairaland.com/6691250/reno-omokri-what-boko-haram
During the Frankish Crusades the Coptic Christians were massacred alongside the Muslims and Jews in Jerusalem. Also the reconquistador in Andalusia (Iberian peninsula) many were killed, libraries burnt down and mosques converted to cathedrals and one of such is Mosque of Cordoba.
People will always attempt to hijack faith to transgress beyond stated limits it is left for people of knowledge and understanding to clarify doubtful matters and urge for calm in the face of tyranny.

While most of what Reno said might be true, I really don't think it's needed at this time.

I mean saying what Roman Catholics did some 100's of years ago is worse than what Boko Haram is doing In Nigeria today is somehow......It's like justifying the barbaric killing of people in this present civilized world where such things are illegal and punishable under criminal law.

During those Era he was referring to, the church and the government was almost one and same; they dictate what is right and what is not in the areas they rule over. We are in the 21st century today, there are laws protecting people's rights, freedom of association, freedom of religion and so many human rights. What Boko Haram is doing today is called terrorism; we are in a civilized world Today and not in the stone age.

Reno saying Southern Christians are the one calling Boko Haram terrorists is not a very bright thing to say. Sometimes I don't know if those guys just like being in the spotlight and they just say some things even when it's not necessary.

This is me not speaking for the church but me not seeing sense in trying to compare things done in an age where there are no proper laws guiding the affairs of men and barbaric things done in a civilized society governed by laws

Actually it's Haaland that drifts more to the left, Lukaku stays central but if he does drifts it's to the right and that favors swapping positions with Havertz and favors Werner who seems more comfortable on the left than centrally

Just modified my post, made a mistake…..Big Rom drifts more to the right

cheesy I didn't really watch England at the euros but at the final I think he is not bad he have the coach's trust I mean tuchel started almost all games last season and he came out quite well and better than harvetz ( his mixed performance is as a result of settling into the premier league)...I think he will be instrumental for the team this season as RWF cos tuchel tends to play inverted winger
Sometimes be logical. Stop Sentimental thinking. You obviously didn't watch him in Euros but here you are making a long speech of all your thinking for him.
This is not Ps2 or Ps3

Even went ahead to put Mount as a RWF.
Same Mount that everybody don't seem to know where he plays again after the Euros. Some saying he suits 10, Some say Central midfield. And here you are picking Rwf.
Let us wait for the season to start before you start thinking for Tuchel

Ohhhh modified already I mean LWF
I mean he played that for us throughout last season and he did well...at least decent enough don't forget he is not familiar with that position...you see a player that doesn't know where he plays..I see a very versatile player.as long as he performs I don't care where he plays.

I think it will be insane to judge a player base on a tournament...club football and national are both different thing entirely...we have players that performs well in the national team and become toothless in their club.

All you said only mainly applies to the developed countries. In Nigeria, there's no freedom of religion.

Whether you're a Christian or a Muslim in Nigeria, once you declare it publicly that you're a freethinker, atheist, or agnostic, your safety is at risk.

Family, friends will depart from you, and you will lose your job, be victimized in school, business, etc.

And if you dare criticize religion publicly, be ready to be lynched, killed or poisoned under the pretext that you're a witch or wizard or you're possessed.

That applies to all parts of Nigeria.

I have had a first-hand experience of some of these things.

In Nigeria and many similar Third-World countries, nothing much has changed when you consider the dark history of Christianity.

Nigeria and Africa are still in a dark age.

That's what we are facing in this shít hole of a country
There's this trending news going on about the wedding dressing of buhari's daughter in law.
The dress was revealing, people criticized it cos it doesn't show a good Muslim wedding.
Guess what hisbah police said, it's a sin to circulate the pictures just imagine the fuckery.
If that was a common man daughter that put on that wedding dress I'm 200% sure hisbah police will stop the wedding.

While I tend to see Ur point concerning religious people in third world countries particularly Nigeria being receptive to non-religious people and their views, I can't but point out some of the not-so-cool stuff atheists, free thinkers, etc do in this part of the world that put them in harm's way.

One of such things is non-relgiois/freethinkers making it as a point of duty to always question the intelligence of religious folk, calling them fools and not allowing them to believe in whatever they wish to. You know most non-religious people are quick to quote Karl Marx saunh religion is the opium of the people, but they take this literally without examine what even examine why opium? opium is a drug that dulls the senses and helps one forget the miseries of the present

Religion like opium takes some people's pains and suffering away. It's hard living in third world countries like Nigeria, when u see Lord's chosen people selling in major markets wearing their church apron on top their cloth, they are just trying to escape their present miseries. When u see a winners chapel person shouting dominion even though he works as a gateman in a private school, he's only trying to escape his miseries.

Now imagine an atheist wakes and starts calling these people fools, illogical, etc....Don't u think u are insulting their sensibilities; they will definitely feel attacked! They will surely react to u in a negative manner, in fact they will wish something terrible happens to them.

I don't support religious extremism and will never be one to encourage it, but like u said the third world countries are still very much far behind.....people like Reno should stop saying things like what he said in that article in order not to make matters worse

This is not about Africa/Nigeria.it is about saying the right tin and the wrong time

If you an atheist.you don't have to criticise other religion all in the name of asking mockery questions.

No one cares if you have juju in your home but don't just use it at the detriment of others.

Keep whatever you are to yourself and preach the way you wants to but not to the detriment of other religion.

Your way becomes barbaric when you use your belief to hurt others just as in the case of BH.

Reno was very insensitive with such a silly history.to what end

Does he support the barbarism??

BH is majorly against westernization and not even the Muslim are free from their vengeance.

So in all...Nigeria is a shithole with bias view.no thanks to the leaders in the helm of affairs.

I will like to argue the case of Hisbah as regards to circulating the pictures, it's against the teachings of Islam to be spreading sinful acts of individuals regardless of their status in the society; this is to prevent others from imitating such and to protect the person's honour
Also, as per why the organization chose to act, the act was carried out in Abuja while they're based in Kano, so they obviously lack jurisdictional powers to prevent it even if they had wanted to.

You're merely preaching to the choir.

Preach the highlighted to your religious leaders and practise what you preach. It's religious people, who can't do without criticizing and cursing freethinkers, that need to follow that injunction.

When you hear some silly remarks some religious people make, you have to call a spade a spade.

That's the right thing to do.

I'm not aware of any freethinker doing so publicly (offline) anyway, apart from eminent people like Wole Soyinka.

Or can you cite an instance where an atheist walked into a gathering of Christians (church), or of Muslims (mosque), and started calling them fools?

Sincere people know there are many teachings in Qur'an that only look good in theory, on the surface.

But when one checks how the founder of Islam, Muhammad, practised these teachings in his Sunnah (deeds), one is shocked to see how inhumane and barbaric Islam, when practised the way Muhammed did (as Qur'an commands), looks.

In fact, no sane person can ever practice Islam like Muhammad did. If they did, they would be tried for crimes against humanity.

Theory is starkly different from praxis (practice). And religious extremism/fanaticism is worse than cancer.

I've seen it play out countless times on nairaland. I've been on nairaland since 2009 and I've seen countless threads solely dedicated for that purpose.

On the outside world it's a different matter entirely. Like u said we live in a third world country and u knkw doing such will definitely put u in harms way like we all agreed most people on opium will never be at peace wit u when u try to take their opium away . This does not necessarily mean pockets of such incidents has not been recorded in the past where overzealous irreligious people have incurred the wrath of ghf religious folk.

I have been doing some research, I discovered that teams that win the league or become very dominant in any sport, have a stable core

most of your players that start games have to regularly play together to build those connections, it's why national teams that have their core players playing for both club and country are successful

Look at liverpool, Leicester, Chelsea and united, at least 8 players have to be starting every game

I think our back is settled, everybody knows their place and ranking, battles there are strictly on merit

Midfield we have 3 and tuchel has created a healthy competition there among those 3, I think that they are bonding and building something

Which brings us to our attack, this is the most important aspect, the chemistry of the attackers is the only motivation that can get the midfielders and defenders working well, your midfielders have to know that if they do their job, those in front can deliver when the opportunity presents itself, its very important

I like havertz but he and ziyech can't play in the same formation, they operate in the same space, lukaku simplifies and complicates things in a good way

For me? If we want to play a top team, our starting eleven should always be

Lukaku
Werner havertz
Jorginho kante

If we are playing a team that likes to sit deep
Lukaku
Pulisic ziyech

If lukaku is injured or rested
Werner
Pulisic havertz

You can mix things up with Hudson-Odoi or mount against certain teams using different strategies but our attack needs to have order, if not we are wasting our time

Chemistry is essential, salah knows mane and mane knows salah

Exactly we need a stable team, it’s easy to predict Liverpool or even United’s team, I don’t know but against tougher oppositions with better defenses I’ll go with Mount/Pulisic as Mount can also to some extent support the midfield structure, Well let’s see what the Gaffer has in his plans

if mount can increase his offensive output maybe but it's more than that for me, it's movement off the ball and play coordination, if I mention havertz now it will seem as if i'm hyping him but if you watch his game, he is always pinging the ball back to free players and moving, if 3 people can get into flow with him, they will ping the ball around defenses like prime barca, I think Werner and pulisic have that vibe with him, with lukaku's hold up play, hopefully he too gets synced, I don't hate mount, I just hate inefficiencies and mount is like a clog to our system, hopefully tuchel finds a system but I swear, if we continue playing mount as an attacker, you guys will also call lukaku a flop cause mount's game play is poor.
