A shoulder to lean on
Angel and Arin had a heart-to-heart conversation last night, right after the Housemates wrapped up their BB Token Task challenge. Angel was seen speaking to Arin in the garden, opening up about her insecurities and how much they are weighing her down.
Angel, who was in tears, started explaining how depression takes a huge toll on her well-being. She opened up about being in pain almost every day in the House. Arin couldn’t help but tear up as well while Angel cried, advising her to "take each day as it comes". She also encouraged Angel not to feel pressured to deal with any issue she is facing.
She told her she was strong enough to have overcome so much at such a young age. Other encouragements included not feeling pressured about having bad days in the House. She told her to take days that seem difficult, and treat them like she is having "a bad Tuesday outside the House". She also advised her to understand that a bad day in the House should not lead her towards any form of depression.
Maria, who was seated near the two, chipped in saying Angel should look at all the other people in the House and understand that everyone is trying to get their life together. She went on to recount her age and the ages of other Housemates who are much older in the House, in a bid to make Angel see that people who were older than her were also still figuring out their lives.
There is nothing more precious than being surrounded by support in a time of need and we can see that the Shine Ya Eye geng have each other’s backs.
What's going on, exactly?
There’s still plenty of gameplay left in the Shine Ya Eye season, and – as the Housemate’s numbers begin to whittle down – it’ll get easier to summarise the goings-on in the Big Brother House. Right now, though, the full complement of 22 people is providing too many storylines that don’t quite resolve into a neat, tidy plot.
The relationship situation, for example – or “shipsuation”, as it has inevitably come to be known – is too amorphous to properly describe. Nothing displays this better than yesterday’s spat between Liquorose and Emmanuel, when the former told the latter this his mixed signals were not appreciated, and that his wishy-washy attitude toward a more serious relationship between them was frustrating her. If the actual Housemates involved don’t know what’s going on, then we – as the viewing audience – can hardly be blamed for struggling to follow along, too.
Then there is the situation between Maria and Pere, or “Periam”, as some people insist on calling it. To us, it seemed like there was some basis for a romantic relationship, there – they were both Wildcards, and they certainly seemed to be warming up to each other, but Pere’s recent conversations with others about how he’s no longer really interested seems to have put the kibosh on that (at least, for now). This kind of back-and-forth has been the order of the day. Last night, Pere and Maria were back to flirting the best way they know how: exchanging snarky comments and insults dipped in honey, while the rest of the House looked on in amusement.
Perhaps we shouldn’t be too surprised, here – 22 people crammed into a House is a situation that doesn’t exactly lend itself to clarity: there’s just too much going on, and the Housemates have a lot to think about when it comes to the mechanics of the Game. BB Tokens need to be won, Abeg Naira need to be hoarded, there’s the weekly Head of House challenge and the constant flurry of Tasks from Biggie that need to be completed. Perhaps, in the midst of all of that, the Housemates simply don’t have the bandwidth needed to process things as complicated as a full view, public relationship.
What is a little surprising, though, is how well everyone is still getting along. It’s just a few days after the first round of Nominations, and those were notable because only Maria and Pere participated, making the five Nominees fairly sure of who was to blame for their predicament. This is doubly true of Yousef, who wasn't even among those Nominated until Boma used his Head of House Veto to put him on the block in Jaypaul’s place.

And yet, despite this, the Housemates seem to be happy enough in each other’s company. Whitemoney is already on the record as saying that it’s not personal, and even Yousef seems to be getting through the day without being mopey (at least, not more than usual).
Maybe it’s because none of the Nominated Housemates feel like they’ve invested too much into the game, only twelve days in. Maybe this is just a coping mechanism, and things are actually closer to breaking point than we realise. There's certainly some opportunity for everything to go off the rails – the Saturday Night Party is known for its hefty consumption of alcohol and the correspondingly-loosened tongues.
Or maybe – just maybe – this is all going to get very real once the first Evictions take place, and the stakes start to become obvious to everyone involved. There’s only one way to find out.
All respect lost:
Today was a full day of housekeeping drama in Biggie’s House. The morning started with bread woes between Cross and Niyi, which basically became the foundation of conversation in the House.
One friendship definitely took a blow this morning. During one of these heated housekeeping conversations, Maria gave up on her meal, disposing of her food in a way that was not taken lightly by the Housemates.
It is alleged that she threw her food out and caused a mess on Boma’s clothes. Boma didn’t take this lightly, as he confronted her about her conduct. She responded to him, thereafter, claiming that she had not seen the impact of her actions.
Boma was soon seen talking to Arin, expressing how he felt about Maria’s actions – that they were violent and unnecessary. Arin added her two cents defending Maria, saying that she was having a cranky day.
Maria eventually opened up to Arin, telling her that she was going through her own set of emotions triggered by that “time of the month”.
Whitemoney, who has been the self-proclaimed resident chef in the House, didn’t take Maria’s behaviour well either, and was heard saying that she has completely lost his respect. This situation comes a week after the previous Head of House confronted the Housemates for wasting food.
Food has been a major topic of discussion in the House, and more so now that the Shine Ya Eye Housemates collectively buy and share groceries. Will they find a way to share without qualms?
Pere declares Interest In Beatrice:
It started with a kiss and now we are here! Where is here you ask? We really do not know. That’s the dilemma Pere and Beatrice have put us and the viewers in.
The two set tongues wagging when they shared sensual kisses during a truth or dare game which saw Pere chose Beatrice to act out the kiss dare given to him. Beatrice also got the same dare and also chose Pere.
This kiss was such a huge deal that even Pere’s love interest Maria complained to other Housemates that she felt disrespected by the act. What we didn’t envision was that the kiss would lead to further conversations between Pere and Beatrice. On Thursday morning, Beatrice approached Pere and asked why he doesn’t associate with her like he does with other Housemates. That question led to a conversation between the two in the early hours of this morning that has got us wondering if Pere has moved on from Maria or not.
So what happened in the garden? Grab a sit let me give you the gist.
Pere had called Maria saying he wanted to speak to her about something. The two then went to a corner of the garden to have a conversation. Pere playing the suave gentleman role started out by telling Beatrice that she is such a sweet girl and she shouldn’t think otherwise. He also claimed he knew she liked him and would want to explore a relationship with him.
Wait did we by any chance miss Pere saying he had a side job as a prophet?
After a little banter, Pere went on to tell her that he liked her, he sees a possibility of them becoming more than friends— but he is not sure if they would ever become a thing. So he doesn’t want to waste her time.
Yeah! We are as confused as you are.
All the while Pere was saying this, Beatrice was blushing like a lady who just got proposed to. At the end of Pere’s speech, Beatrice made it clear that she wasn’t necessarily interested in Pere and he might be mixing things up in his head. We hope this murky water clears up soon so we know what’s up.
Housemates are taking it slow:
Love is on the table, but the Housemates are taking it slow, and we are getting anxious to see who will be the first to make it official.
Today's Diary Session had Housemates comment about their crushes, love interests and the possibility of ships or situationships in the House.
Emmanuel confessed to developing feelings for Liquorose whereas Liquorose said they are good friends. Although these two are fond of each other, we can’t help but wonder how long it will take before they embrace the idea of a ship?
Whitemoney’s comment on ships in the House best set out the atmosphere by highlighting that he couldn’t really say for sure who is really into who but like him, we are hopeful that anything coming out of this must at least be good.
Peace is here for the vibes and confessed to being flirtatious “in a good way”, but how much longer will it be before the men of BBNaija start catching feelings?
We may not know what sign the Housemates are waiting for to set sail on these ships, but they are taking their time.
Mad fights in the House:
Shhh! The thin walls in Biggie’s House can't keep secrets and today’s fights are nothing short of the quarrel fest we’ve all been anticipating.
Just after 13 days in the House, cracks are starting to show up and they are all results of misunderstandings leading the ladies down a rabbit hole of gbas gbos.
As Big Brother’s Diary Session was underway this afternoon, the ladies gathered in the closet where two fights erupted.
It is the second day we see Maria in a predicament in the House. Maria and Jackie B set the scene with a heated exchange, and this almost led to Princess getting in trouble for laughing. We don’t blame her though because some of the exchanges would put a chuckle in our throats. Words and names that we can’t even reiterate ourselves were shouted but we can’t blame them. Twenty-two complete strangers living in a House in perfect harmony would be a dream come true.
Keeping to the spirit of fighting, we saw another altercation between Tega and Nini. What could have simply been a matter of conversation turned into a vicious exchange of ‘f-bombs’. All because of a chair. Tega allegedly grabbed and pulled a chair that Nini was resting her feet on without letting her know. Nini did not take this well and we are not surprised after we saw her lashing out at Pere just a week ago. Respect seems to be a major value to all the Housemates but are they doing well in communicating it with one another?
It does not end there. All the fights seemed intertwined and involving a lot of Housemates. One would assume the stay in the House is driving them nuts, but it honestly feels like we didn’t get the memo. Pere has become very unpopular in the House, as he has been called fake by some Housemates who say that he has been gossiping and stirring up drama for the geng. We saw him inserting himself between Sammie and Angel’s business questioning their status and trying to play the role of a cupid even though he offered to share a bed with Angel. We wonder what his true strategy is?
Gossip is the plug keeping all the wahala alive among the Shine Ya Eye geng. We saw a fired-up confrontation from Liquorose to Beatrice when she overheard her and Angel talking about the other Housemates in the early hours of the day. This didn’t go well with Liquorose who felt she deserved transparency and realness from them.
Currently, the state of peace in the House is shaky but we hope that the Abeg Task Challenge and Jacuzzi party will make them melt these tensions a bit.
The morning after:
No alarms and no workouts, the Housemates had it good this morning sleeping longer than usual. Besides after partying late into the night, they needed all the sleep they could get.
Cross is still fired up. Where Cross found the energy to start partying all by himself this morning still remains a mystery. He woke up in the mood to dance and that he did. From the bed to the kitchen, the man had energy and vibes for days. We can’t say if it was leftover vibes from last night or him being eager to get the Saturday Night Party started. Either way, we look forward to him bringing this litness tonight.
Revisiting old issues. Princess and Tega spent time discussing the whole fight fiasco from yesterday. While Tega recounted her altercation with Nini over the chair, Princess is still shocked that Maria got triggered by her laughing during her dispute with Jackie B. She didn’t think she had any malicious intent and wondered why the whole issue escalated. They both agreed that their fellow Housemates come from different backgrounds, and hence, they’d always see things differently. What others would consider as jokes, some will get worked up over. “This kind of things are expected in the House,” Princess added.
A night to remember:
What’s a Saturday in Biggie’s House without the party that comes with it? Today was no different.
The Housemates were turned up to level 100 with DJ Nana dishing out the best of tunes to the Housemates.
Decked in their fresh outfits by WILO, the BBNaija Housemates went on to the Tecno photo booth to get some fresh shots with the Tecno phones in their possession. After that, it was time to Party, Party, Party! Thanks to Boomplay and Gordons, the Housemates had a blast.
After Party Shenanigans. After the party, Housemates were in high spirits and Biggie complimented it by providing them with music after the party had ended. A few of the Housemates gathered in the garden enjoying the music when a little ‘ship drama’ happened between Maria and Pere.
Maria was heard asking Pere what was wrong and why he had an attitude. Sammy and Angel walked into the conversation and had light banter with them. In the course of the banter, Maria mentioned that Pere was angry that she danced with other guys and asked Angel to kiss him as compensation. That little moment continued until Pere told Maria “You don’t matter”.
Stunned by Pere’s statement, Maria dared Pere to repeat what he said and then finally told him that the conversation they just had would be their last ever in the House. However, it seems Maria has developed a soft spot for Pere because within a minute of ending the friendship she went right back to ask Pere why he was moody and what she did.
Drunk chefs cooking. While Maria and Pere were sorting out their situationship, an obviously tipsy Whitemoney and Beatrice made noodles for themselves and their fellow Housemate. Remember we said they were tipsy?
While Whitemoney put the noodles in the pot, assistant chef Beatrice was opening up the seasoning sachets and pouring them on the kitchen table thinking it was a plate. Talk about being lost in the moment.
Whitemoney on his part left the noodles on fire and went to the restroom. Luckily JayPaul took over from the tipsy chefs and made sure food was available for those who wanted it.
Is this too much drama for one night? No, definitely not. We want more and hope we get to see it as the weeks go by.
