The Suicide Squad (2021)

Suicide Squad (2016) is easily one of the worst super hero movie ever made. It was incompetent in a lot of fronts from characterization, cinematography, acting, sound design, story, directing, VFX and special effects etc.

So I was thoroughly surprised that I liked TSS. This movie is basically a soft reboot of the 2016 version. It’s a story that can serve as a continuation of the pervious Suicide Squad but it can also stand on its own due to the fact that some characters were recast, and that it isn’t a direct continuation of the 2016 version.

To just say that TSS is better than Suicide Squad is almost like an insult at this point. The story is superb and fitting for the ensemble. It totally makes sense that The Suicide Squad would exist to take on government interest and do the dirty work the government doesn’t want to be connected to. It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense that in a world ending catastrophe for the Suicide Squad to be the go-to people when the Justice League is just kicking around.

TSS is also really funny, thanks to the writers and director.

The characters were on point. I liked Idris Albas as Bloodsport, even though he was basically Will Smith’s character from the previous movie. John Cena was incredible as Peace Maker. Looks like all the acting in the WWE makes wrestlers good in acting. I heard that there’s a Peace Maker series coming up and I’m really looking forward to it. The other members of the teams were also great; even King Shark that looked incredibly goofy was fun and likeable.

IMO the least likeable member of the team is Harley Quinn. At this point, I’ve come to realize that I have a love-hate relationship with Harley Quinn. I really hated her character in the first movie. She was super annoying, cringy and had no business being in that movie. However, I liked her in Birds of Prey. Sadly, in this movie, I liked her the least. The weakest parts of TSS were when Harley Quinn was away from the team doing her own stuff.  But it’s all good, because, the writing is so good that it totally makes up for that shortcoming.

The movie also had scenes of gratuitous full frontal nudity and violence but I really didn’t mind. Though there is a point that I would like to make about this – maybe in later post.

Overall, this is one of the better DCEU movies and I hope we get more things like this. I wish I saw the movie in a cinema so as to contribute to its success. Even though it’s really convenient to watch a movie at home  as soon as it comes out, I really feel that this new trend of putting movies in cinemas and on streaming services will be detrimental to the profitability of the movie industry. Even oyibo people self dey stream and torrent movies illegally talkess of people wey dey this side.

I don't know about the overall score but the individual songs for that movie na Bangers I tell you.

Na the music and VFX na im be the only wey I love/like for that movie. I hate that movie die up till today. Only Robbie, Will and Viola dey exempted.

I hardly keep a movie but before I choose to know say na straight to my system plus I can't run out of space. Those movies made my year so far. Black widow, furious 9 and the others were disappointment abeg.

Suicide Squad I : 7/10
Suicide Squad II : 6/10
Harley Quinn carries this movie, easily my best character. Her craziness is humorous, I always look forward to her theaterics

P.S : Starro the conqueror is all shades of disgusting and irritating. Ewwwww. I couldn't watch his scenes
