The La Liga season is underway and FC Barcelona has started theirs in style.

Reeling from the loss of their super talisman, all eyes were on Barca yesterday evening to get a glimpse of the post-Messi era. Well, the Catalans didn’t waste any time in showing fans that all is not lost with a great team performance that gave the club a 4 – 2 win at home against Real Sociedad.

The game started in good fashion, with Barca starting the opening threats within seconds. Ronald Koeman used a 4:3:3 formation, so this meant that the Catalans hugged possession instantly with the likes of Busquets controlling the midfield.

FC Barcelona scored their first goal of the game thanks to Gerard Pique’s well timed header effort from a Depay freekick. The Catalans didn’t let their foot off the grass however, as Martin Braithwaite soon added Barca’s second goal of the night with a powerful header past a hapless La Real goalkeeper.

The Danish striker went ahead to make it 3-0 in favour of Barca after a rebound came his way and he swiftly buried the ball into the back of the net with a powerful low drive past a Real Sociedad defender.

Fears of bottling the lead soon started when Real Sociedad scored two (2) goals in three (3) minutes to make the game 3 – 2. It seemed like last season’s woes were about to raise it’s ugly head again, a worrying situation for Koeman.

However, La Blaugrana maintained their game, and substitute Sergi Roberto scored the final goal of the match to hand Barca their first victory of 2021/2022 La Liga season.

The score line didn’t do justice to Barca’s overall play on the pitch as the team should have gotten more goals than they did. There was a lot of chances created, and Griezmann even scored a goal that was ruled for offside – a hard call though. Jordi Alba also missed a clear one v one opportunity with the goalkeeper and couldn’t help but laugh at himself for missing such a glorious chance.

But, it was a good game from the boys, and they will only improve going forward.

an injury or suspension to any of busquet, pedri or de jong would expose dis team...

barca lacks depth in d squad...they jus continued from wen dey stopped last season, starting games very well n blowing it up in d final 10 mins bcoz dey cnt kill games n messi no dey help DM dis time
a poor sociedad dt was losing 3-0 n did nothing juw scored 2 goals in 3 mins n d coach was looking very clueless before he subbed memphis dt would have gone out since dt 75 mins..
next week is away in Bilbao n DTS were barca season starts..
congrats to koeman BT I doubt if he would escape d sack dis time even before d season ends

Stop bringing the team down to mk urself feel good cos messi has left... u guys will finally find out thst he is overrated.... sociedad is a strong la liga team and they defeated them without Messi... I go laugh una tire if barca win CL this season

Barca have been a very poor team since 2017.

With Messi Barca took just 1 points from a newly promoted Cadiz.

What does this tell you, it tells you that with or without Messi Barca has been shit!!!

To say the team will struggle is like saying water is wet. or like saying tomorrow is Tuesday.

Barca will struggle even with the GOAT they finished 3rd narrowly on the final day.

They worst is yet to come so stop stating the obvious!!!
