A reminder of what we've been saying:
Power use hits record in first half on recovery. Electricity consumption by homes and factories in Kenya hit an all-time high in the first six months of this year, indicating improving economic activities in the country.

Data from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) shows homes and factories consumed 4,690.49 gigawatts hours (GWh) in the six months to June compared to 4,296.23 GWh in the same period last year.

The electricity consumed by large commercial users and domestic consumers was also higher from 4,413.56GWh in the first year period of 2019.
https://www.businessdailyafrica.com/bd/economy/power-use-hits-record-first-half-on-recovery-3523834

Kenya tops growth in new connections of electricity. Kenya has been ranked as the top country in the world in reducing the population with no access to electricity, pointing to the impact of the State’s focus on rural areas for nearly a decade.

The Energy Progress Report for 2021, a product of a partnership between the World Bank and bodies such as the International Energy Agency, says Kenya’s electrification pace is now ahead of population growth.

Kenya’s annualised increase in electricity access between 2010 and 2019 was at 5.6 percent — the largest among the top 20 countries in the world with the biggest electricity access gap.

The increased pace of electrification, also supported by off-grid solutions such as solar, points to the fruits of the State’s last-mile connectivity programme, which was launched in 2014 mainly targeting rural areas.

Kenya’s growth dwarfed the world’s average growth of 0.8 percent, with the closest countries being Bangladesh (4.1 percent), Uganda (3.2 percent), Tanzania (2.5 percent), India (2.4 percent), Myanmar and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea with 2.2 percent each.

To avoid pain we need not look at Naij's electricity stats cause not even Yemi Kale could reinvent reality!

This is from your gov - maybe you will trust it more. Ghana VAT is 15 percent. They are levies charge on some goods for NHIL/GETFund just like in Kenya we have many levies too - like road levy, railway development levy, electricity dev lev, rural electrification levy, etc - that are earmarked or ringfenced for a specific purpose - unlike taxes which are dumped into one treasury basket.
https://gra.gov.gh/domestic-tax/tax-types/vat-standard/
Value Added Tax (VAT) is a tax applied on the value added to goods and services at each stage in the production and distribution chain. It forms part of the final price the consumer pays for goods or services. In some countries it is called ‘Goods and Services Tax’ or GST. Click HERE to File and Pay for your VAT Standard Rate.

The 2018 Mid-Year budget amended the VAT rate from 15% to 12.5% and delinked the National Health Insurance Levy (NHIL) and Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) from VAT by removing their input tax deductibility. These changes have implications on the computation of tax for VAT Registered persons. Click HERE to File and Pay for your NHIL/GETFund.

Facts are very stubborn things.

KPMG has standard rates - if you average Africas 14, Asia 12, america 13, europe 20, eu 19 - it's 15 percent.

why do u keep putting shackles on ur self? undecided and no, KPMG does not have standard rates.

How does what u post correlates with the chart provided? Ur table is only showing indirect taxes by continents in a 10yr frame..... Don't just scour the internet to bring what doesn't corroborate ur point.

Even if u "averaged" continental VATs, how does it makes it "world standard VAT" knowing fully well that average is after all countries VAT are summed and divided by the numbers of countries?

Mr. Lunatic use 2021 figures not 2011 figures. You are always fond of twisting and manipulating figures.

Even with your own figures you have to lie to make a point?

Whether we believe this your data or not is also a different topic for another day. grin

There is no standard

However countries increase or increase it according to their needs and affordability. Saying there's a standard you make it like it's an acceptable or base.

context, idiot..... Rvp's idiocy is really contagious.

Even though we're talking Economics before Rvp20182 reverted to English language to save face .In Economics, "standard" and "average" aren't the same, was never and will never be the same.

Now, in English Language which u & ur tin god are using as a saving grace.

some synonyms can't be used in place of another in some sentences because they aren't 100% the same, and if used, they'll change the context of the content, those types of synonyms are called PLESIONYMS ..... That's why ur dictionary said "used or accepted" as emboldened.

Another example of plesionym is "long" and "extended", as u can see, they have near-same meaning but can never be interchanged in some cases, if u do, u'll definitely change the context of ur sentence.....

Same with "standard" and "average", they only have near-meaning but are definitely not the same meaning, though may be used in some context..... And in the discussion that leads to this English class, "Standard" and "Average" can't be interchanged.

It differs from regions to region

Well if you say euro region is 20%, Americas 11% Asia...

That when you can say the average VAT rate doer a certain region, it it will make sense, at times don't argue for the sake of trying to sound smart.

You are wrong, the Word standard was used incorrectly in this part

This Kenyan should be an honorary Nairalander! His brainpower would fit right in. Look at this stinky mess he shouted on Saffa tv.

As the public debate raged, the South African Broadcasting Corporation interviewed Kenyan economist David Owiro on TV.

Kenya was not yet in distress, Owiro said, “but the stock of debt is currently standing at about 100% of GDP”. A country’s gross domestic product is a measure of the size of its economy.

Interviewer Peter Ndoro was aghast. “Hundred percent? Wow, but that would suggest almost insolvency.”

With the complete confidence of a clown and the self awareness of a 'tard he's professionally ruined himself NEVER to be taken srsly as long as THE world rmbrs this poo show.
He's embarrassed himself, his alma mater, lineage, neighbours and ENTIRE county! Guys, whenever in public, live TV especially rmbr WHAT is said can NEVER ever be unsaid and avoid making a monkey of YOURSELF!?
Say ONLY what you know- know what you say or remain silent. It's better to be the silent pro than the mouthy expert.
In an ideal world professional orgs and societies of which he's doubtless a member would hold him to account. There REALLY SHOULD be CONSEQUENCES for such unprofessional statements.

Verbosity. They should have taught you how to summarize and elucidate your point succinctly like I did. The most important context that you missed was Obaboon allegation that Kenya tax payers were overtaxed due to 16 percent VAT. My retort was simple...kenya was actually paying 16 percent which would pass as the standard VAT worldwide - which is around 15 percent.

This level of obtuseness is shocking. Would never happen in Kenyan forum.
