timbros:How his first season ended is not what we imply here, how did he play in his first season should have been the right question cus thats what we been talking all along. Now answer to your question is that man city under pep Guardiola still played possession football in that first season. Every one knows the season ended that way because they were not clinical enough and not that they didn't play possession based football. You can use our match against them when we won 1-3 incase your still in doubt . |

MorataFC:How was biesla with Leeds city able to match pep Guardiola in possession? Possession is not trophy. Once it's your default philosophy, irrespective of any team you coach, you will be bound to play that way. It is why you see klopp with a certain pattern that reflected in both his Dortmund and liverpool team even though they were not financially equal. Pep Guardiola and LVG will play possession irrespective of how much their team is worth against each other. |

popizaino:So why didn't he dig deep in Man City academy to get the players that will improve his possession based football after the first season since he used mostly academy products to dominate in Barcelona? |
| Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by BlueMann: 9:45am On Sep 06, 2021 |
@ Popizaino Concerning that Bielsa - Leeds ball possession scenario you cited, I personally think that it was as much Guardiola's tactical approach as it was Bielsa's. What I mean is that, I feel in as much as Leeds dominated possession, they did so only because City let them do so. Guardiola prolly felt Leeds would go toe-to-toe with them, and decided to tweak his usual possession based approach into a more counter attacking one, in order to exploit Leeds' high risk system. While Bielsa and Pep are both heavy on possession, Pep has a much better squad that should be able to execute the possession based football better that Bielsa's squad. So for me, Leeds had >70% possession after 40 mins only because City allowed for it to happen. It Pep meant to drag that ball possession with Bielsa, Leeds for no see pass 35-40%. |

timbros:At least he has shown you he does not require money to play possession football as seen in his first season at man city, Barcelona and Bayern Munich and that is the whole point of this discussion. Money is not the catalyst behind pep Guardiola's team playing possession football. If you are obsessed about it you will play it even if they give you England national team. |

Pep Guardiola did not enter the transfer market to make him able to play possession football which he was already playing but he went because his team wasn't clinical enough. |

popizaino:Stop referring to Pep's first season in City. What's the use of playing possession football without anything to show for it? After going trophiless in the first season, he should have sticked with the same players or go to academy for 'upgrades' if money is not the catalyst. He won what other coaches won in Bayern locally. So we cant say that his possession football improved Bayern trophywise. The bottom line is, Pep's possession football is expensive. Around £1B in his current job. If you want to see Pep vs LvG right now and enjoy it, let the playing ground be level financially. |

timbros:Arsene Wenger played possession football with an inexpensive arsenal, I don't think he would go to real Madrid tomorrow and be playing kick and follow. Coaches have their style, even if Mourinho goes to Barcelona or man city today you will agree with me that he wouldn't still play the game beautifully and that is the style. It is not about money it is about your style. Without money he bossed almost every team in his first season at man city in possession, so reinforcing his team afterwards is not to help him keep possession which he was already having in larger share but to correct some certain aspect of the game which is not possession. Now let's look at it from this angle, how come Arsene Wenger always boss Mourinho to possession? Why don't you ask wenger should match Mourinho in spending before in could match in possession? |

patrickmuf:You are not far from the truth. The whole thing just looks suspicious. They had 3 days to have enforced whatever regulations/guideline they needed to enforce, but they waited till kick off to do that. Even messi shock I think if anything, Brazil should be punished for the show of shame.

BlueRayDick:I saw the line up and immediately put my money on Argentina because Brazil were missing so many players especially the EPL contingent of Brazilians but their health ministry officials had other ideas...As I said, it looked orchestrated to get the game postponed. Brazil can't lose twice to Argentina in quick succession on home soil, the embarrassment will be too much... |
| Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by afrodoc2: 4:04pm On Sep 06, 2021 |
patrickmuf:You have to also blame the Argentine players who lied about their travel history though. The Brazilian health authorities had actually tried enforcing their quarantine rules for people coming from "red" countries like the UK but Lo Celso and Romero kept claiming they had not been in the UK recently. ![]() The rule in Brazil is that if you are coming from the UK you should quarantine for 14 days in a hotel room before moving around. Last i checked a football stadium is not a hotel room. Romero and Lo Celso had no right to be on that pitch as per the rules in place in Brazil and they had been warned about it BEFORE the match but they kept insisting they had not been in the UK in the 14 days prior to the match. There was actually a big row in the Argentine hotel base BEFORE the match but they fought the health officials and boarded the bus to the stadium. I am now hearing that Spurs plan to sanction Romero and Lo Celso for traveling without permission and contravening the rules agreed on by all Premier league clubs. Brazil played fair but the Argentines in typical fashion tried to finesse the system. |

afrodoc2:While the Argentines were trying to bend the rules, this looks bad on Brazil because if the players were bringing Corona into the country they have already succeeded. In the time at Brazil they could have gone clubbing, carried olosho, gone to market etc to infect people They got through customs. Left airport to the hotel Stayed in hotel for 3 days Travel to the stadium Enter a packed stadium Warmed up and shook hands with Brazilian players Start match and played for 9mins I think the Brazilian authorities dropped the ball seriously on many occasions |
| Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by afrodoc2: 4:30pm On Sep 06, 2021 |
raumdeuter:Definitely the Brazilian authorities dropped the ball but like i said the health authorities had tried stopping the players from being involved right from when they entered Brazil but Lo Celso, Romero and Buendia that everybody had watched just a few days earlier playing in the EPL kept claiming they had not been in the UK for over 2 weeks. If someone is lying ojukoroju what else can you do? ![]() The Brazilian officials had been arguing with the Argentines for 2-3 days before the match but Lo Celso and his boys kept lying in the face of video evidence that they had not been in the UK for over 2 weeks. They argued on arrival and were let into the country to go to the hotel. Then on the day of the match they were reminded of the 14 day quarantine but they kept claiming that they had not been in the UK. The Argentine FA officials who knew the truth should have done the honorable thing and withdrawn the players from the squad but they kept defending the lies of their players. Brazil health officials either in collaboration with their FA or due to their own personal anti-COVID extremism decided that "cunny man die, cunny man bury am". |
