If An Elected Political Public Officer Changes Party, What Should Be Done? by BluntCrazeMan: 3:48am On Sep 08, 2021 |
It is very clear that in the Nigerian Politics, it is the Party that wins in the Elections, and not the contesting candidate. Therefore, whoever that wins in an election is riding on the victory of the party, and not on his own victory (no matter his influence or popularity). Therefore, one is meant to ask the pertinent question.... If an elected political public officer changes party while still in office, what should be the next ideal thing to be done? (That is, going by the same rules of the Nigerian Politics) .. I have always tried to solve this puzzle situation. And also, there had not been any legal judgement on similar situations. .. Nairalanders, I need answers on this one. |

Omoluabi1stborn:If that is the case, then, all these defectors would have had all their seats declared vacant, and they themselves replaced within 90 days naa... .. In-fact, If that is the case, then the practice of defection would be at the very minimum |

Seems you guys are not getting what the OP is really asking.... (IDEAL Solution). If you say for every defection by a politician that his/her seat should be declared vacant, (what if ) Scenario : The defector was someone trying to follow due diligence in discharging his/her duties according to laid down constitution, but the party is trying to circumvent due process thereby frustrating the politician and he/she felt safe to defect so as to carry out his/her expected duties without party interference. |

MrWondah: And are you wondering why the likes of Peter Obi, Kingsley Moghalu etc are still struggling to attain some political offices. Except in few cases, Party still hold the wild card. |

Omoluabi1stborn:So, why had the parties not taken the defecting Politicial Public Officers to court for a proper and an adequate redress?? Or are the parties being lenient?? Or are they being afraid? |

deepfreeze:And also, remember to consider the established judgements from the courts, that “it is the parties that won the positions, and not the candidates in question.” |
