You are warning banks but your aboki people are still selling and buying dollars in black market with full confidence. Were they excepted from this new FX policy?

Allow Nigerians to spend dollars ($3000 minimum) using their visa/Master card

The rates will drop significantly

Emefiele deserves to be shown the door!

The man, like his boss the Dumbo-in-Chief himself, has nothing to offer.

The writing is on the wall for all to read.

If this fellow is allowed to continue to head the CBN, it will only spell more doom for our economy.

Simply put, the man does not know his onions!

Lol this statement can only come from someone who's not seeing the bigger picture.

If you're earning dollars it's fine but you still have to spend in a failing economy.

Earning in dollars is cool but it does not protect you from the other societal ills as a result of a receding economy.

How is it an advantage?
You earn in dollar and then spend it in naira.
Let me school you; the value of money is not determined by its quantity but by its purchasing power.

Sometimes I feel they are doing this intentionally
To create room for racketeering and profiteering
The gap between official and black market needs to be wide for them to make easy money

If inflation wasn't a problem
Then maybe the person you quoted will have a point
But we are facing twin demons
Inflation AND DEVALUATION
earning in dollars saves you only from the latter
The former is still waiting for you with sharp cutlass cheesy

What kind of useless government is this for Christ's sake? $1=N550?? God please intervene, this mannequin dullard is ruining Nigeria's economy. So bad that the Ghananian Cedi is now much more valuable than the Naira and even Benin Republic's currency that was nothing before is now at par with the Naira. God pleaseeee.

Your comment is filled with hatred and no iota of basis. You’re probably a bitter BDC operator who was rightly deprived of profiteering from free dollars from the CBN.

Stopping sale of dollars to BDCs was the right policy. The other problem they have refused to fix, which is one of the main root causes of this problem is individual dollar accounts. As far as I know, most of the educated folks in Nigeria who are slightly well to do, no longer save in Naira. Most funds are usually mopped up in their accounts and Converter to dollars for their dollar accounts in Nigeria.

Imagine that on a daily basis? The sheer demand by lets says 25 million Nigerians converting Naira to dollar just because they don’t want to save in Naira? Which other country in the world allows this and prospers?

Either for lack of political will or because they are huge beneficiaries of it too, they have refused to stop this practice and it is a huge strain on the currency value because of the huge dollar demands which mop up dollars that should be going to the productive sector.

CBN should institute a policy whereby everyone that has a local dollar account must ensure that no more than 5% of their total money-in-the-bank at any point in time is held in a foreign-denominated local account.
