that's just the code grin
Make them no go dey talk say that boy na longer throat you just need to form hard man first, especially if the person offering you the food is the one that do beg for their food to be eaten, they hate rejection even when you told them you're fed.

Mostly regarded as courtesy. I remember someone visiting me while I was eating, i said: "come and join me", I thought he'll say "thank you", e shock me when this guy went to bring fork to eat.
We also have some people that don't just eat at anybody's house they visit.
If I know you on a regular and you offer me something when I visit you; I might eat.

By God's grace I lack nothing more so food.
I am a picky eater so I don't eat just anything I am served. I dont go hungry to visit people either
My preferred kola is a plate of fried beef and a chilled coke grin grin

How u do know they are hungry? And if they were it cud be to show manners bt mind u some people don’t take food from people they aren’t familiar with especially cooked food. Stuff like snacks can still be ok for visitors.

this shows so much about the host.
na broke host dey ask this type of question.

1. I like to come to your house or party with a full belly if it is my first time there (unfamiliar grounds) because i do not know the condition you are in.
2. you assume everyone that comes to your house for the first time is hungry. most times i leave before u present food to avoid see finish (self respect). i rather die with the hunger.
3. you are really poor if you serve me food in such a plate and in the manner as described in those pictures you uploaded.
4. finally, many of us grew from HOMES where you learn not to eat food from people, we learn to say NO incase it is your last food in the house and you are just trying to impress. Make hunger no go finish you after we leave. But if u are my padi, i will eat two plates.

There's what we call "Self esteem'

It won't tell good record of you when you visit someone for the very first time and start acting hungry and then you sit comfortably and eat any food offered to you.

Personally, I have a policy I have been guiding and protecting. I won't visit someone for the first time with an empty stomach. I make sure I have something that can take me for that particular period I'm going to be with the person. I may even reject any drink offer, not to talk of cooked food.

I think it's just courtesy to offer your guest drinks, snacks or food cos you believe they must be thirsy and hungry from the journey.
It's also courtesy to reject politely so you don't appear hungry and desperate.
Most of us were taught to say no to such offers so we dont give the impression that we came there for food .

I'm older now and I still don't eat everywhere I visit and this is what I'd teach my kids too.

But in all, it depends on where you are and with whom you are with.

Lol. I can relate. cheesy I do it as well sometimes and I think it's something my parents have subconsciously instilled in me, as a courtesy gesture. I don't know if it's right or wrong sha. You don't want to appear like a wild and famished animal, or that you only came to their place to eat (their) food. You no eat before leaving your house? And it depends on the kind of meeting too.

After I have initially, but 'politely' ignored the offer, I'll acknowledge and put it down beside me or on the table first, then ignore again for another round grin grin and the host will be like, 'eat your food; you haven't started eating?' 'Oh, I will eat, ma... it's hot, it's this, my stomach...This movie...' and I'll go back to watching the TV, genuinely, though. There are even some guests that will come to your house and NOT touch any of the drinks or meats you put before them. I always pray for that sha, na that one dey sweet me, because I know I'll get to deal with them later. cheesy After all, if the guests had eaten it, it won't be there anymore, so mummy, let me eat it.

It depends on different social cues sha, but as a norm, you're not going to your guest's house to eat. I mean, eating, as in your main meal and such. The food is a refreshment added to the main reason for the gathering's purpose.

It's courtesy for you to offer, it's courtesy for you to decline. Exceptions apply though.

They said they are not hungry and here you are saying they are.
You should speak for yourself

Who serves food from the back ... What about putting it on centre table or dinning table and call the person to come and eat.. obviously the person is watching an interesting program on TV..

My thoughts o, was gonna ask if they can’t place it down on the dining area or center table like you said.

In boarding school as a kid, u can't ask such a question... before u said u don't have two spoons, he will tell U not to worry he got one..
Come and eat,..Thank You?
Except that student was just returning from their home and doesn't want whatever u were eating to ruin what he has eaten cheesy

One of the qualities of being Matured is learning to control your emotions: fear, anger including hunger. So don't grab at every food offered you especially the first time.

If they eat, you're still going to be the one to come here and tell us how some starving people come in for the first time and finish fridges, pots and stores. Did they tell them they were coming to a buffet or what? Etc, etc.

No winning.
