Ghanians have really tried to posthumously repair the image of Kwame Nkrumah but history cannot be changed. Kwame run an oppressive dictatorial and very corrupt regime. He embarked on bone-headed economic policies that bankrupted Ghana - a once a thriving country - like Nigeria - was for the Brits. By 1966 it was obvious the country had been torned apart. 10yrs of black rule had become a disaster. He couldn't even pay the army - and the army disposed him. IMF was invited to repair the mess. The mess of hyperinflation and dictatorship would last until 2002 - when Jerry Rawling finally returned Ghana to civilian rule - after almost culling the entire Ghana elites.

Thanks to Nkrumah, even when Ghana's economy collapsed in the 80s and all the military rules, Ghana was still more developed than Kenya and Ghanaians were still richer.
