In a post shared on twitter, BT Sports posted pictures of UFC's Nigerian athletes to mark their Independence Day celebratioin. The pictures featured UFC's Welterweight champion and current UFC's no 1 pound for pound fighter: Kamaru Usman, Middleweight champion: Israel Adesanya, Light Heavyweight fighter: Kennedy Nzechukwu and Featherweight fighters: Sodiq Yusuff and Hakeem Dawodu.

On March 2019 at UFC 235, Kamaru Usman defeated Tyron Woodley by a Unanimous decision to become the first African UFC champion. As of September 27, 2021, Usman overtook UFC's Light Heavyweight veteran Jon Jones in the pound for pound ranking to become the number 1.
