So you will continue to export your cocoa to be laced with swiss milk and resold for 100 times more?

When it come to poultry I think you're also babies. Kenya has developed many of it's own chicken breed.

Kenya supply day old chics to the region...Kenchic is definitely one of the biggest... Uganda, Tanzania, Somalia, DRC, name them...depend on day-old chicken hatcheries from kenya.

Kenchic is proud to be the largest integrated poultry operation in East and Central Africa and deals in day-old chicks, processed chicken meat and further

One of kenya biggest Chicken farmer - Nelson Muguku - grew a big business empire from it.

Muguku Poultry Farm
In 1965, Muguku bought the 22-acre Star Ltd farm from a white veterinary doctor for Kshs 100,000. He renamed the farm Muguku Poultry Farm and started a hatchery with a 9,000-egg incubator. His growing business saw him at one time supply eggs to Governor-General Malcolm MacDonald and the country's first Prime Minister Jomo Kenyatta. Today, the farm can hatch 500,000 chicks a day and also hosts dairy cows as well as an orchard.

Stock market
Muguku was an active investor in various counters at the Nairobi Securities Exchange. However, it was for his stake in Equity Bank that he was best known. He acquired a 6.08% stake before the bank was listed and was for years the bank's largest individual shareholder.[2] By 2014, the Muguku family had reduced its stake in the bank to 0.9% valued at KShs 1.6 billion (equivalent to US$17 million at the time).[4]

Real Estate
Muguku owned a building on Mfangano Street in downtown Nairobi and was a major property owner in Kikuyu town.[2] In 2014, through Crossroads Limited, the Muguku family embarked on the construction of phase 1 of the Karen Waterfront mall at an estimated cost of Kshs 2.6 billion (equivalent to US$28 million at the time). The family also owns Crossroads Mall in the same area.

Owner of Karen waterfront mall.

We will continue to import milk from Burkina Faso and Mali so that farmers from there wouldn't have to migrate to Ghana..

You are like DRC. So much arable land - and stone age agriculture. If Kenya had such land and so much water - we would definitely be one top countries in agricluture.

By time you go into serious polutry like Kenya - we would be into bigger things.

Muguku is perhaps the 2nd or 3rd largest hatchery - Kenchic (owned by I think Moi and Ndengwa family) are the big boys in east and central africa.

we are already in serious poultry and Kenya does not even come close.
Our various poultry farms are already producing 3 million birds a week, 10 million days owe chicks and 20 million eggs a month.

You think it is just by coincidence that Ghana consume more meet than Kenya..?

Here we go with basic research - you do not even breed your chicken. For a country that eat egg in every meal smiley smiley - that is ridicolous.

https://www.rvo.nl/sites/default/files/2019/12/Update-poultry-report-ghana-2019.pdf

Commercial poultry production in Ghana can be categorized into large-scale (over 50,000 birds),
medium-scale (10,000 – 50,000 birds) and small-scale (less than 10,000 birds) enterprises.
Domestic commercial farms are privately owned by individuals or a family. According to the Ghana
Poultry Project (GPP) here are 29 large scale commercial poultry farms currently in Ghana and
mostly found in the Ashanti region (13), Brong Ahafo (12) and Greater Accra region (4).
These
form about 20 per cent of the total poultry sector, producing mainly eggs. Most operate their own
feed-mills

Even though there are local hatcheries that produce day-old chicks, the quality is generally low, so
most poultry farmers prefer to buy imported day-old chicks, especially layer day-old chicks. In 2018,
Ghana imported 511,960 broiler day-old chicks and 7,130,999 layer day-old chicks (source GPP).

Currently, there is limited regulation on local hatcheries. The Government of Ghana is yet to pass
into law a hatchery bill, which will ensure that quality day-old chicks are produced from domestic
hatcheries. Currently, day-old chicks for commercial production are primarily produced by 15 local
hatcheries and 8 importers according to the Ghana Poultry Project survey carried out in 2017. The
importers mostly import the day-old chicks from the Netherlands and Belgium. Demand for day-old
chicks exceeds supply by both local hatcheries and imports.
Re: Kenyans Are Far Behind Nigerians In Every Aspect – Fani-Kayode by rvp20182: 1:38pm On Oct 03, 2021
Ghana does 7million day old chick per year - while kenya does 1M per week grin grin

Agriculture contributes 25% of GDP in Kenya with poultry playing a major role, representing 30% of the agricultural contribution to GDP. Some poultry companies in Kenya have operations that qualified it to be classified as a sector one farming system, with contract farming as part of their strategy. A substantial number of day old chicks produced in Kenya (42%) are exported to neighboring countries.

Kenya has an estimated poultry population of 31 million birds. Of these, 75% consist of indigenous chicken, 22% of broilers and layers and 1% of breeding stock. Other poultry species like ducks, geese, turkeys, pigeons, ostriches, guinea fowls and quails make up 2 % of the poultry production (MOLFD, 2012). While indigenous chicken are mainly found in rural areas, broilers and layers are kept in urban areas. The commercial poultry sector is producing over one million chicks per week. The features of the commercial market are a growing urban population and growing retail sector such as fast food branches, supermarket branches and restaurants. The demand of commercial chicken (whole, half, parts, grilled and fried chicken) and eggs is high and growing.
Re: Kenyans Are Far Behind Nigerians In Every Aspect – Fani-Kayode by rvp20182: 1:40pm On Oct 03, 2021
Actually kenya now does 1.4M day-old chick per week. In about 4 weeks - a month - that what Ghana does in a year

The Kenya Poultry Breeders Association (KPBA) said production of day-old chicks would drop by 28.57 percent to one million this week from an average of 1.4 million per week.

with all this this copy and paste. Kenya is also a dependant on turkey for her fertilized egg and likewise UK for its young chick. You are even currently facing a chick crisis. There is shortage.

It is only you who have time to copy and paste. Same thing is happening in Kenya.

There is just too much demand - there is some imported fertilized egg - we export day old chick to the region. Like I told you in every sector - kenya has to take care of Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Somalia, and all these countries looking up to us.

Now explain to us why you import day-old chick via plane to Ghana smiley Do you have a chicken plane or how does it work.

You are importing day old Chick just as Ghana( UK is one of your trading partner) . End of discussion. And when it comes to meat consumption, the demand here is higher than that of kenya. Government run a free meal programs here for primary School children and eggs is included as part of their dishes.

It is not coincidence that our neighbors are also as productive as us . We aren't surrounded by poor or hungry country such as yours . In west africa , food is not a problem not even meat .

No we are not. We import small deficit of fertilized egg. Kenya has it's own chicken brands. We have world class research in polutry. Gov produce it's own breed - and private sector.

As for food - kenya doesnt lack food - people living in arid areas just lack the money to buy food.

Kenya export a lot of food - our horticulture sector has no peer in africa - our tea is world leading - our dairy now africa leading - name any sector.

But that wont stop poor people living in arid parts of kenya and experiencing drought from starving.

Unlike in west africa - we do not allow turkana like fulanis to just drive their cattle south and kill people.

They stay in their semi arid and arid land - face drought - as they wait for Gok to send drought relief food or now for mobile money cash transfer.

Let me help you - Althought you eat egg with everything - You can have more birds but of what type? Useless birds kept by your mother? The same with cows.

BIGGEST DEAL in livestock and even agricluture is the BREED. This is why breeding is very very important - you need to improve traditional chicken and cows - for world class breeds from Europe or Asian or wheverer.

One kenya bird lays two eggs per day - Ghana lays one egg every two days smiley. One kenya cow (fertilized from best breed in Europe) can produce 40 litres of milk - Ghana fulani cow is 2 litres.

Kenya
In 2019, production of eggs primary for Kenya was 98,544 tonnes. Production of eggs primary of Kenya increased from 11,688 tonnes in 1970 to 98,544 tonnes in 2019 growing at an average annual rate of 5.10%.
Ghana
In 2019, production of eggs primary for Ghana was 53,833 tonnes. Production of eggs primary of Ghana increased from 7,793 tonnes in 1970 to 53,833 tonnes in 2019 growing at an average annual rate of 4.37%. ... Total productions include eggs for hatching but exclude waste of farms.

Who do you think will have the largest egg production?

And guess what Ghana total chicken population is, as at 2020…?

Re: Kenyans Are Far Behind Nigerians In Every Aspect – Fani-Kayode by rvp20182: 2:28pm On Oct 03, 2021
Because our polutry is 25 percent modernized; 75 indegenious. Ghana I bet has 5 percent modern polutry and 95 percent is the Africa fowl of stone age.

Check egg production and meat production. Modern layer can lay a storm - and broiler - is ready for meat in a month or two. You african chicken will take forever to lay eggs or produce meat.

You need to modernize your country's agricluture. Outside Cocoa - you're doing very badly.

Diarhoea as always. Is Cholera back in Ghana - it was doing damage in the bigger zoo - Nigeria.

You total layers are 7m - out of 89m birds - that basically mean give and take - your are doing 10M modern birds; against 90m;

In Kenya we are doing 100M birds per year modern birds - most of them get eaten in two months time - including the layers.
