Damn she is looking at 44years if she doesn’t pay up the 54million in restitution sad
No, it’s an additional ten years if she doesn’t pay the N54M.

Someone please tell this mumu what concurrently means in sentencing. She was sentenced to 14 years which is actually 7 years (because night and day are counted) but may get off with a fine on appeal!

No, 14 years. Learn to read these their trick sentencing stuff which the press likes to sensationalize. On appeal she would probably just pay a fine!
Oh okay. Thanks for the clarification.

I read about the night and day thing on Google, and it said it's not true. Although, it was about sentencing in the US.

I don't encourage stealing and I hate thieves but I feel this is somehow too much, then how about our politicians. There is no true justice in this country. Still , fear women.
She was sentenced to 7 years (everyday is counted twice in jail) effectively, but may get off with a fine on appeal. That's not too much.

If that happens in US u can only imagine what happens in Nigeria if you have money and don't commit a serious crime while in jail. Whole thing is a sham. Orji Kalu, etc, were sensationally sentenced to how many years again?

Because anytime EFCC goes after them , you guys will promptly riot and protest against their arrest.

That's why relatively few politicians have gone to jail.

It doesn't make sense paying back except she is truly repentant. She is actually spending a maximum of 14 years whether she pays or not because the jail terms are concurrent.

Wrong. If she doesn't pay, the additional 10 years is consecutive. It clearly says so. Meaning she'd start serving that after she finishes main sentence

She was sentenced to 14 years effectively. 10 years to be added if she doesn't pay. Learn to when read sentencing stuff!
Nigerians don't really comprehend when reading. I believe that by now we should know the difference between concurrent and consecutive in jail terms.

And the press plays on that ignorance in their sensationalisation of news. The headline will read "yahoo boy sentenced to 30 years", then in the final paragraph they'll hide there is an option of 50k fine!

Which means she would only spend 11 years in prison, if night and day are counted, and she will be out to enjoy her loot, if she default to restitute 54m. That is fair enough.

Just explain to him/her gently. No need to abuse him. Some people don't actually know the law or read up on it. Especially the sentencing of it.

Be gentle with him/her. Good morning smiley

Judge said concurrently... it's 14year max...and she wouldn't have earned such loot from honest employment... within that time...so it's still her win....if she has the funds locked in something averagely profitable in that period...

7+5 is 12 not 11. But she'll likely serve no jail term on appeal - if she has enough money
