jl115:Stats can be deceiving at times. South Africa won't be having the highest rate of crime if not for poverty In grandeur. Kenya has crime but not to the level of Black suffers. This alone should be able to tell alot bruh. - the higher the crime rate, the more the poverty. Khayelitsha looks terrible. Infact, this is just 10% of the entire khayelitsha and undoubtedly the heaven in the slum. Anyway, I will ignore the terrible part which I just saw and focus on positive since it's you. You twist anything and I lay bare the jungle of shanties & shacks I've just gotten from the Google. Kibera is under rehabilitation program - 50% of kibera dwellers are Nubians not natives. Kibera dweller can access anything that a SAn can access.

| Re: Kenyans Are Far Behind Nigerians In Every Aspect – Fani-Kayode by rvp2018: 3:30pm On Oct 10, 2021 |
Very true. Kibera and kenya slums people actually climb out of poverty. it's very hard to find inter-generational poverty. In 90s and even now Kibera Olympic primary was one leading schools in kenya. In our university class - we had two kids from Kibera - ex-olympic - and there were many doing medicine, engineering and such courses. Kenya slums are just a entry point for rural poor emigrating to urban centers. Shma: |

Yeah found Olympic primary - Kibera school at middle the slum - that school has produced lots of top people. They use to lead Nairobi and sometimes nationally The Olympic Primary School is a government-run primary school in Kenya. It is located in Kibera, a slum district in the capital Nairobi. The school was established in 1980. Over the ensuing years the school was successful in national examinations and thus attracted pupils from all social classes, from millionaires families, middle-classes, working classes and the penniless slum dwellers. Look like it was doing well but went down when free primary school was intruduced - Kibera's Olympic primary went down. It was giant during our time. Those slums kids use to beat almost everyone. Another difference you will notice with kenya slums - crime is almost zero - any little crime attract instant lynching - drugs and such very minimal - there is poverty but no serious structural probelms. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMQzCViL9SE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSRsOJUyvFs |

The late Ken Okoth became Kibra first Mp - born and bred - went to Olympic - and like many kibera kids rose to become top proffesional. He left a stellar record as Mp and died young from cancer Kibera use to be part of Langat/Karen - but is now it's own constitutuency. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDJNcWhf9KI Ken Okoth as Mp built so many schools in Kibra..and his brother the current Mp was elected to complete his term.

Kenya poor have a real path out of poverty compared to South Africa apertheid system that codemn blacks to inter-generational poverty. Kenya urban slums schools produced some of the best kids in our exams. They proceed to go to schools like Starehe boys that sponsor them 100 percent - and go on to become the best in their lifes - joining the IVY leageues. Kenya slums are not permanent station of life in Kenya If two school could speak - Olympic and Starehe boys - it would be story of triump - of slums kids - extremely intelligent - extremely discipline - coming out of slums to be doctors, engineers, etc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E3rTGYV31a8 Starehe boys - Alumni read like who is who in Kenya and the world. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-998qKJZUQ jl115: |

Nah - I worked for World Bank in 2005s or around on poverty analysis. Kenya poverty then was 45-50 percent. In places like Turkana and Northern Kenya - poverty was 95-98 percent. Now I think northern kenya it's down to 75 percent - and in places near Nairobi - it down to less than 20 percent. Kenya has reduced it's poverty tremendiously the last two decades...lifting I think 10-20m people out of it. COVID has probably send a million back to poverty but nothing that drastic. jl115: |

You can never compare kenya slums with even south africa - leave alone zoos like Ghana and Nigeria.Nearly every slum dweller in kenya has 24hours of electricity - and water - sometimes or mostly illegally - but they have everything - except space and tittledeed to put in property. Sanitation is a big problem but now they are community toilets. Kibra the houses are saddle without any space for sunlight - I remember walked one day inside it - you walk for a kilometer on dark paths - with shops and thriving business - but it pure darkeness on the tiny footpaths - somehow everyone knows their houses. If you enter a house - you are suprised - they have TV, clean cheap carpet, water and some little furniture..in 8 feet house. |

Only if you put a link. Kenya poverty has never been 32 percent. When I worked for WB - poverty was 47 percent - and then it redueced to 36 percent in the 2016 national household survey. The northern Arid kenya has serious endemic poverty problem. They are battling Sahara desert - desertification - but they are doing extremely well - given their circumstance of perrenial drought - that kills everything - including your beloved wildlife in millions. Unlike the Fulanis of West Africa - they cannot just pick arms and shoot down their way to pasture and water. Some do try but kenya security forces are tougher and not complicit like in West Africa -esp Nigeria where Fulani is president or dominate the army. No other poverty analysis of that scale has been done...I guess it will be until 2025. Poverty measured under the national poverty line declined from 46.8% to 36.1% of the population. ... Poverty declined considerably in rural areas, from about 50% in 2005-06 to 38.8% in 2015-16 jl115: |
