The Relationship Between Idolatry, Witchcraft, And Human Sacrifices And Danger It Poses To Any People

The worst times Israel ever faced as a nation, was when she indulged in idolatry and began to worship the gods of the lands they dwelt.

Usually that practice eventually led them to engage in abomination practices like human sacrifices which was synonymous with idolatry and the major ritual involved.

That was the reason God has severally warned them never to engage in such practices, which was the manner of the former inhabitants of their land, so they don't end up also being vomited out of the land as it had done to them.

Exodus 20:2-3 (KJV)

I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

Leviticus 18:21-28 (KJV)

And thou shalt not let any of thy seed pass through the fire to Molech, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the LORD.
Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.
Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it is confusion.
Defile not ye yourselves in any of these things: for in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out before you:
And the land is defiled: therefore I do visit the iniquity thereof upon it, and the land itself vomiteth out her inhabitants.
Ye shall therefore keep my statutes and my judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations; neither any of your own nation, nor any stranger that sojourneth among you:
(For all these abominations have the men of the land done, which were before you, and the land is defiled; )
That the land spue not you out also, when ye defile it, as it spued out the nations that were before you.

Therefore anytime they began to worship other gods in disobedience to God's commandments, they usually ended up committing the same abominable acts of the former inhabitants of the land such as engaging in human sacrifices. 2 Kings 211-16, 24:2-4.

So just as God had warned them, they payed dearly for it, as they suffered many setbacks as a nation as a result, and ultimately when their cup was of abominations was full, the land which spued out the former inhabitants also spued them out. 2 Chronicles 36:14-21

Idolatry And Witchcraft: How King Manasseh Filled The Land Of Judah With Innocent Blood

2 Kings 21:1-16 (KJV)

Manasseh was twelve years old when he began to reign, and reigned fifty and five years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Hephzi-bah.
And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, after the abominations of the heathen, whom the LORD cast out before the children of Israel.
For he built up again the high places which Hezekiah his father had destroyed; and he reared up altars for Baal, and made a grove, as did Ahab king of Israel; and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served them.
And he built altars in the house of the LORD, of which the LORD said, In Jerusalem will I put my name.
And he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the LORD.
AND HE MADE HIS SON PASS THROUGH THE FIRE, AND OBSERVED TIMES, AND USED ENCHANTMENTS, AND DEALT WITH FAMILIAR SPIRITS AND WIZARDS: HE WROUGHT MUCH WICKEDNESS IN THE SIGHT OF THE LORD, TO PROVOKE HIM TO ANGER.
And he set a graven image of the grove that he had made in the house, of which the LORD said to David, and to Solomon his son, In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all tribes of Israel, will I put my name for ever:
Neither will I make the feet of Israel move any more out of the land which I gave their fathers; only if they will observe to do according to all that I have commanded them, and according to all the law that my servant Moses commanded them.
But they hearkened not: and Manasseh seduced them to do more evil than did the nations whom the LORD destroyed before the children of Israel.
And the LORD spake by his servants the prophets, saying,
Because Manasseh king of Judah hath done these abominations, and hath done wickedly above all that the Amorites did, which were before him, and hath made Judah also to sin with his idols:
Therefore thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Behold, I am bringing such evil upon Jerusalem and Judah, that whosoever heareth of it, both his ears shall tingle.
And I will stretch over Jerusalem the line of Samaria, and the plummet of the house of Ahab: and I will wipe Jerusalem as a man wipeth a dish, wiping it, and turning it upside down.
And I will forsake the remnant of mine inheritance, and deliver them into the hand of their enemies; and they shall become a prey and a spoil to all their enemies;
Because they have done that which was evil in my sight, and have provoked me to anger, since the day their fathers came forth out of Egypt, even unto this day.
Moreover Manasseh shed innocent blood very much, till he had filled Jerusalem from one end to another; beside his sin wherewith he made Judah to sin, in doing that which was evil in the sight of the LORD.

2 Kings 24:3-4 (KJV)

Surely at the commandment of the LORD came this upon Judah, to remove them out of his sight, for the sins of Manasseh, according to all that he did;
And also for the innocent blood that he shed: for he filled Jerusalem with innocent blood; which the LORD would not pardon.

King Manasseh was said to be the worst king Judah ever had. He was said to have done wickedly even above the abominations done by the former inhabitants of the land that made the land to spew them out.

He was said to have filled Jerusalem from one end to another with much innocent blood, and from the highlighted above, it's no surprise that he engaged in Idolatry, witchcraft and consequently human sacrifices, that even his own son who he offered up as a human sacrifice was not spared.

The Consequences: The Land Vomited Them Out

Moreover all the chief of the priests, and the people, transgressed very much after all the abominations of the heathen; and polluted the house of the LORD which he had hallowed in Jerusalem.
And the LORD God of their fathers sent to them by his messengers, rising up betimes, and sending; because he had compassion on his people, and on his dwelling place:
But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy.
Therefore he brought upon them the king of the Chaldees, who slew their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary, and had no compassion upon young man or maiden, old man, or him that stooped for age: he gave them all into his hand.
And all the vessels of the house of God, great and small, and the treasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king, and of his princes; all these he brought to Babylon.
And they burnt the house of God, and brake down the wall of Jerusalem, and burnt all the palaces thereof with fire, and destroyed all the goodly vessels thereof.
And them that had escaped from the sword carried he away to Babylon; where they were servants to him and his sons until the reign of the kingdom of Persia:
To fulfil the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land had enjoyed her sabbaths: for as long as she lay desolate she kept sabbath, to fulfil threescore and ten years.

The Raising Of Prophets Or Leaders By God To Put An End To Such Abominable Practices

In those days when the wicked who practice idolatry and witchcraft, have so corrupted the land with such abominable practices and filled it with much innocent blood, God used to raise up men to bring them down and put an end to such abominable practices.

One of such men was King Josiah, who God used to cleanse the land of Judah from the abominations that King Manasseh had wrought upon it.

2 Kings 23:24 (KJV)

Moreover the workers with familiar spirits, and the wizards, and the images, and the idols, and all the abominations that were spied in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem, did Josiah put away, that he might perform the words of the law which were written in the book that Hilkiah the priest found in the house of the LORD.

Another of such ones was prophet Elijah whom God raised up, during the days of another very wicked king of Israel called Ahab, who unsurprisingly had a high-ranked witch, called Jazebel, as wife.

2 Kings 9:22 (KJV)

And it came to pass, when Joram saw Jehu, that he said, Is it peace, Jehu? And he answered, What peace, so long as the whoredoms of thy mother Jezebel and her witchcrafts are so many?

In their days, among the innocent blood they shed upon the land of Israel was the blood of the prophets of God, as Jezebel, the witch, slew all the prophets but for a hundred that were hidden by righteous Obadiah.

For it was so, when Jezebel cut off the prophets of the LORD, that Obadiah took an hundred prophets, and hid them by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water.)

Was it not told my lord what I did when Jezebel slew the prophets of the LORD, how I hid an hundred men of the LORD'S prophets by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water?

But God used prophet Elijah to confront her and her husband, and to curtail their abominable activities.

1 Kings 21:20-26 (KJV)

And Ahab said to Elijah, Hast thou found me, O mine enemy? And he answered, I have found thee: because thou hast sold thyself to work evil in the sight of the LORD.
Behold, I will bring evil upon thee, and will take away thy posterity, and will cut off from Ahab him that pisseth against the wall, and him that is shut up and left in Israel,
And will make thine house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah, for the provocation wherewith thou hast provoked me to anger, and made Israel to sin.
And of Jezebel also spake the LORD, saying, The dogs shall eat Jezebel by the wall of Jezreel.
Him that dieth of Ahab in the city the dogs shall eat; and him that dieth in the field shall the fowls of the air eat.
But there was none like unto Ahab, which did sell himself to work wickedness in the sight of the LORD, whom Jezebel his wife stirred up.
And he did very abominably in following idols, according to all things as did the Amorites, whom the LORD cast out before the children of Israel.
