The pressure on manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is increasing with every fixture. And the next is against free-scoring Atalanta in the Champions League.


Gian Piero Gasperini’s side prepared for the game at Old Trafford, by putting four goals past Empoli in a 4-1 win on Sunday afternoon.

They are also top of Group F and one of eight teams yet to lose in the competition.

United have lost one and won one – needing a last-gasp Cristiano Ronaldo to see off Villarreal.

Atalanta pose a real threat. Not only to United’s hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages of the Champions League, but to Solskjaer’s job security too.

A bad result against the Serie A side will only set the alarm bells ringing, as the Red Devils face Liverpool next in the Premier League. Jurgen Klopp’s are another free-scoring side and it will take an almighty performance for United to take all three points against them.

If that indeed happens, Solskjaer will likely not be United’s manager by the time they return to the Champions League to face Atalanta again.

The 48-year-old will be hoping he can pull off one of those his dodgy results against either Atalanta at home or Liverpool this weekend
