This is my voyage plan from Onne port to Tema port in Ghana.

Necessary documents, publications, charts and requirement to fulfil -

Documentation -

All crew discharge book, yellow card and International passport to be collected by Captain.
International passport to be submitted to immigration for stamp out of the country.
Outward clearance to be processed through company agent from custom.

Charts required -

Use Chart catalogue to determine the necessary charts required for the voyage.

BA Chart 3288, 3287, 3286, 1386, 1385, 595, 3118, 1384 and 3432

Publications required -

African Pilot volume 1, 2 and 3

Admiralty List of Lights and Radio Signals - 281-1, 281-2, 282, 283-1, 284, 285, 286-3

Departure ship stability calculated - 4.5m even keel
Minimum underkeel clearance - 1.0m
ETD Onne port - 20-11-2020 / 0900hrs
ETA Tema port - 25-11-2020 / 1000hrs
Steaming time - 5knts for 5days 5 hrs
Avergae speed - 5 knts
Total Distance - 520 nautical miles

Tide -
Low water - 0900hrs/ 0.2m
High water - 1500hrs / 1.2m

Master's standing order to be followed by OOW -

- Keep proper radio watch on VHF channel 16 and radar watch
- Regular Fire, safety and security patrol
- All water-tight doors closed at sea
- Vessel on ISPS level 2
- Maintain safe speed and distance with minimum CPA of 1.5nm

Pretty large ship. What do you transport and how many days in a month do you spend on the sea?

AHTS - Anchor handling, Tug and supply/support vessel.
I do minimum 2 months at sea, a month at home.

How busy is the Onne Port and do you see it being viable as a destination for cargo vessels?

If not for the Covid-19 effect, it is mkstly busy.
Cargo vessels berth there regularly and that is why they have FOT and FLT
FOT - Federal Ocean Terminal designed for big ships/foreign going or ocean going vessels
FLT - Federal Lighter Terminals for smaller vessels.
Container vessels and Bulk carriers do come there regularly to load and offload

Is there any reason why Maersk vessels from Asia have to touch base with Apapa and Tincan before heading to Onne?

Hello bro.
To be honest, getting jobs post Covid-19 is not really easy.
I even have relatives who are on my neck to bring them into the industry and not being able to do that for some time has lead to frictions.
They believe I have what it takes to give them job but it is not soo. Nobody believes me.
To them, I don’t want to help family but only want to be enjoying. A very bad african mentality.
The agent I do use most that I know can help me died last year march (so painful).
Anyway, let’s connect and see how we go about it.
