Babara1994:
Nigeria's best president in recent years. He singlehandedly settled Nigeria's debt and put a lot of anomalies in check. Under his regime, Nigeria nurtured a strong relationship with the USA. Obasanjo wasn't perfect, but he was better than the others.

Jonathan ruled for good 6 years and we began to incur more debt. Under his nose, his "sister", Deizani Alison Madueke embezzled billions meant for the Nation.
Zero commerce, zero industry, maximum curruption! Baba had no choice but to allow Buhari take over, leaving over 10 trillion naira debt.

Now, Nigeria's debt stands at 33 Trillion naira in Buhari's administration.

Who else should take the blame?

Tell me one thing Buhari did wrong? Or one thing he should have done to rectify 15 years of PDP misrule?

Did you know that until around 2016, Nigeria did not have a visible tax collection strategy, since the whole country relied on oil prior to when the global price of oil crashed?

Which means, all these years, we have been eating our tomorrow. Buhari was unfortunate to have come in 2015. He is the one who is now made to take all the blames.
So FIRS has been doing what all the while??
Look man, it is not about the party! Apc and pdp consist of the same recycled old men. My point it that Buhari has made it so bad that some African countries that couldn’t even stand beside us are now way better than Nigeria. His government is to be blamed. He has tripled the national debt and is still bent of collecting more. He only came to plunge this country deep into recession, insecurity and nepotism/tribalism. He has absolutely no business heading a state talk more of country! Those who voted for him the first and second time and bozos like him!

Jonathan ruled for 6 solid years and we began to incur more debt. Under his nose, his "sister", Deizani Alison Madueke embezzled 20 billion dollars meant for the nation.

Are you really praising him?

Nigerians once insulted this man but now, he is a saint among the present, who knows how the future ones will look likehuh

Let me explain it to you more broadly.

Nigeria has suffered from oil dependence since the 60s or thereabout. Over the years, we have relegated agriculture, and other forms of revenue (such as taxation) to the background. In fact, national development was funded from oil proceeds. It was not strange that the United States would romance the Obasanjo administration immediately after years of military rule, beginning barely uninterrupted from 1983.

The reason why Buhari is never to blame for the mess we are in is because over the years, we have relied on oil revenues, far more than we relied on other revenue sources like agriculture and taxation.

Now, when there was a slump in global oil price in the 2014-15 period, we were also battling insurgency, poverty, and unemployment. Buhari came in to meet all these things. When the price slumped again in 2018, the economy had only begun to register post-recession growth. And then the discovery of oil in the United States means we lost a large market, as the United States no longer need our oil.

If previous governments starting from Obasanjo had combated the oil dependence, a mere slump in oil price will not turn a whole giant of Africa into a borrower.

Now the government has no other means of sustaining the economy other than by borrowing and heavy taxation.

You still don’t get my point bro. I am not disputing the fact that Nigeria has been heavily dependent on oil which is really annoying. Yes, the foundation is really faulty but the point is Buhari was just after being “president”. Yes there was a mild recession when he came into office, but look at the situation of the country now. Nigeria has nose-dived further into the worst economic situation ever in history and it’s going to get worse because the leaders don’t even know what exactly to do. There is no one steering the boat. It’s not about a party but the leader(s). In a saner clime, he would have stepped down. You and I know he will leave this country in 2023 in a much worse state.
