Civil servants like him are many in the service with forged certificates and forged date of birth. I blame the authority that does not carry out thorough verification of individuals before employing them.

Forged date of birth although still very wrong is still not as worse as forged certificate.

We can blame that on the frequent strike in Nigeria universities, polytechnic and by the time the student graduates he is above the age.

The student will have to find a WORK AROUND by way of sworn affidavits to amend his age.

In the case of forged date of birth the government can still get rid of the worker with that 35 years of service rule which one is allowed to work at least if age does not catch up with the forger the number of years of service will catch up with the worker.

But forged certificate is more worse as these workers damage the system with their incompetence.

What I see that affected Chima was carelessness. No one can deny his brilliance or research capacity as he has won several research awards within FIIRO over the years but he paid little attention to his PhD which made it drag for years and only took it seriously when pressure was on him which put the spotlight on him. It also calls to question how someone that attended top premier Universities in Nigeria (UNN and Unilag) for his first and second degree with excellent results could elect to do his terminal degree in a lovely rated University in Benin Republic. Benin Republic is notorious for many academic malpractices such that even NYSC has started denying their Nigerian graduates opportunity to service. How a high profile person like Chima chose such a destination for a degree as important as PhD beats me.

This man's case is largely self-inflicted. He had ample time to sort out his academic discrepancies but left it to focus on FIIRO politics and when challenged, he kept on playing the ethnic trump card as if he enjoys immunity because he is in the same tribe as the minister, Ogbonnaya Onu of his tribe, who recommended and defended his appointment. He really caused a huge embarrassment to the board of FIIRO. Kudos to the FIIRO community that remained defiant and insisted that he has to go.His story of grace to disgrace will teach others a lesson.

The First Nigerian to forge a DSc was Sylvester Anieke. He was qualified as a medical doctor in Canada but went on to forge a Dsc. Imagine!! not even PhD but DsC.
He was busted and Azikiwe gave him cover with impunity . When the forgery was discovered he was forced to resign the governing council of the University of Ibadan.

Azikiwe used his position to bulldoze his reinstatement just like Onu is trying with Igwe
