seunolu7:I will advice Igbos not to argue with Yorubas on this issues. This illusion is their greatest undoing. They have been telling themselves that they are very educated and have been living in that imaginary paradise, not knowing that other tribes have crossed their self exulted position. They were telling themselves that they have the highest number of Professors, while NUT data is evening putting their dear Osun somewhere around 5th position. Nothing is as destructive as one believing in his own lies. Please leave them to remain in that their utopia. Imagine someone asking how many Universities are in the East as basis for their argument. Why not ask, how many Igbos are in the SW universities and how many Yorubas are in the SE universities. You can go further and compare number of Igbos and Yorubas in Universities outside SW and SE. Again, why not pull 20 years data from Jamb and WAEC and see for yourself. Enough of this childish argument, that bubble has been bust long before now. You people think now is those day when you used the traditional media to craft your narratives and force them into our throat. Social Media is your nemesis. You have continually de-marketed the Igbos with the narrative that they are traders with no education, why not go into the markets and ask that boy repairing TV at Alaba his level of education. yeye |

seunolu7:I hear you, so predictable. You went far, all the way to UNESCO to ask for data on Nigeria's literacy/education and ignored the main custodians of educational data in Nigeria. What an educated people. I will not help you if you cannot help yourself. Go and get the following: 1. Data from Jamb in the last 20 years 2. NECO from inception 3. NAPTEB all the way down 3. WAEC from 20 year back 5. Go to NUC and get their data on number of lecturers, Professors and their region. Why not justify the claim of "educated people" by using scientific data. And honestly, I don't care what you believe, your lies will continue to work against you. And one thing you must know is that the Igbos are not in competition with other tribes, they are rather in competition with themselves. We don't care where ever you think you are. That's why you will see Igbo man doing anything outside his region so as to meet the challenge at home. Truth is, we don't care what you think. |

9jalyte:Lies. Ibos are outside their region because its a tiny, red mud landlocked space. Kaduna is bigger than alaibo so you troop out like flying insects after a summer rain. Another reason is crime. Its not allowed to commit crime on your home land so you enthusiastically commit crime elsewhere to collect chueftsncy title in December. Lastly, until you stop being economic refugees and others come to your region for the economics, you're zero compared to the yorubas. |

donbachi:How do u explain the term literacy? Literacy simply means ability to read and write. The definition of literacy can't be restricted to ability to read and write in English only. Literally, 90% of Northerners are literate because they can either read or write in Arabic, Hausa or English. There fore Nigeria's definition of literacy has to take a realistic shape rather than being bias. In pre-independence era, Northern literacy level is more than the current bias figure. The colonial administration accepted and implemented the recommendations of banning the use of Ajami (Arabic scripture) in the North without thinking about their implications for future educational planning, whether Islamic or secular in northern Nigeria. From the logistical perspective, maintaining Ajami and gradual rather than automatic transition to the modern Roman system would have been cheaper and more effective. This policy alienated the Qurʾanic schools that Lugard had found and allowed to function without interference. It also contradicted Lugard’s earlier support of the Qurʾanic educational system and questioned not only his personal integrity, but also his lack of diplomacy. This singular act of proclamation altered the future direction of Islamic and conventional education in northern Nigeria. Thus, Roman script replaced a centuries-old literate tradition and value system symbolized in the Ajami form of writing, which the Northern Muslims were already used to. The decision to ban the use of Ajami was not only unfair and unjustifiable in the view of Muslim northerners, but also lacked merit as Ajami script, through centuries of use, was proven to be more suited to the phonetic nomenclature of Hausa than Roman script. As if that arbitrary and unilateral decision was not enough, the colonial government followed it up by making English an official language which turned out to be a unpopular move. Although it was premeditated, it was on the whole premature. This sudden and radical shift from Ajami to English had resulted in the total transformation of Islamic and conventional education in the North. The theological hierarchy and the Muslim intelligentsia in particular vehemently opposed the idea of abolishing Ajami and substituting it with Roman script. The policy had an adverse effect, as it slowed the progress of religious and conventional knowledge in its written form especially in theological and literary aspects. Furthermore, it destroyed the culture of reading and writing, foundations of a sustained and glorious civilization that had lasted for centuries. It was so crippling that it was like injecting poison in northern Islamic literate culture. The banning of Ajami script and introduction of Roman script concurrently did not exactly produce the desired results as the opponents of conventional education saw it both in concept and content as specifically designed to make those who do not use it illiterate. |
