I do this also. I don't speak up unless the caller speaks, irrespective of the person. Call it pride, I got no fvcks to give!

If it's someone unfamiliar, I go 'hello'
If it's someone I'm in a great rapport with, I start by hailing the person e.g 'Odogwu!'

I go the American cowboy yankee way. "YA, GO FOR SAM" or " Sam speaking" that's if I dont know the caller, but if the caller is a friend I say "hw va" or "sup".
