Integrity is the missing link You can't hold a man drowning not to hang to a straw. Láílai! Indeed a reason they say ' a man hungry must be very angry' Angered or not, if he should steal a pot of soup, They'll say... Integrity is still the missing link. I don't know how I came to this conclusion but I've observed that if you don't soil your hands in Nigeria, making money is not too easy. It is not, but guess what, making money is not easy anywhere in the world and Nigeria is not an exception. If I still can, permit me to question your mind this time... Have you ever seen a police/traffic officer collecting bribe and you looked away? You felt the act was bad but you have no powers to help. Probably yourself, maybe.. been extorted in anyway. I was in same shoes. It drains your energy, I got turned, I felt bad and sorry for my pocket, and especially, my country. Extortion is not new but do you blame those police officers? Blame them all you want but they buy gas and recharge electricity too. Every worker wants pay rise, always complaining. So sad complains will never bring down market prices, but then Salary remains thesame. If you blame the government for this, shall I ask again, where is the economy to hang these fat salaries on? Don't even blame the political office holders, they are investors! As a Nigerian, you should know. I know why a man will amass his wealth over time to squander it all on politics. Integrity, that's the missing link. Integrity as it is defined by M-webster dictionary is "firm adherence to a code of especially moral or artistic values" Moral or artistic values.. "Artistic means... Made to taste. Or Let's just say 'pleasing' So we say, Integrity is to display attitudes that are pleasing. Choose who has pleasing attitude/integrity? Peruse this list below and answer the question above. 1. Executive 2. Legislators 3. Judiciary 4. High, middle and low class 5. Or Let's say 'the masses' If a Traffic officer is a man of 'integrity' I bet you'll lose whatever made you err on traffic laws. Let's examine the meaning of integrity in this part of the world. Here, integrity will make you suffer. Your mates will be doing whatever it is and you (a man of integrity) will languish in emptiness, especially of the pocket. Of course the shame of poverty in which your sons and daughters, wife and family members won't spare you. For giving them nothing than integrity. I always see it all clogged up. A politician spending billions to get power is not a philanthropist. People who are investing their efforts too won't bulge to sit very close to that cake, don't expect more than the crumbs. You begin to wonder why Succesful candidates won't get government jobs except they pay, even if you pass, your name can still be swapped. If you ask who made such blunder, you'll realise he/she is also Hungry and Angry. Some Corruption trends can never be erased. Let's take for example. You beat traffic light on red and a police officer gave you a hot chase. You wouldn't have broke the rule if not for that important issue that needs your attention. No vehicle was coming from either directions but the light was on red when you beat it. The traffic officer caught up on you and demands your cooperation... (Cooperation is to impound your vehicle) Bottomline, he's delaying you and you are also guilty. He's not asking for bribe but he definitely look like someone who'd take. The Big Question is, what will you do? I think integrity is the missing link, but we'll all survive, but if we don't... Pray for the coming generation, they deserve better. Let's talk other issues.

You've made good and constructive points to ponder on. Lost my first admission because my father a man of integrity refused paying a certain money before I'll be admitted. Of course if I hadn't passed the exam that would be a different story altogether but I did and was denied admission simply because I didn't reach the aggregate mark or point. Well disappointed as I was then,I had to make up my mind to sit for another examination. @Op see we have few people of integrity in this country and I'm unashamedly to say my dad is one of them. A man who served his state with cleanness of the hands and pureness of the heart,he retired with nothing, not even a regular pension to start with. I'm very dissatisfied and disappointed whenever I remember I have someone who never bribed his way to get favor or even falsify his age to stay longer than expected,of course people were shocked he retired quite early even before I was through with secondary school. I'm sharing this because I'm most close to my dad than my mom and he has told me alot about his services to the state and government and then the treatment he's receiving afterwards. He's one of the reasons I pray to God to help me get favor and kindness from my fellow men, honestly he deserves a lot. Our system is corrupt from the leaders to the led nevertheless I won't judge everyone with this same measure. People of good morals and sound judgments abound but the question is where can we find them and in what condition will you see them in? Of course you know the best answer to that poised question judging from what we have in Nigeria and how fair our system has been to us. God will help us. |

Deborah98:My father was a farmer but he has this friend who was a naval officer, the man was the oga to where they keep arms and ammunitions. He didn't steal a penny and he's still poor till date I saw many of his friends during his son's naming ceremony and I was dumb. They were too rich to be called his friends. |

Ojikutumomiage:that's just the case, being good sometimes doesn't pay but we must not because of this stop being good. I watched my dad serve the government and up till now he's neither recognized or rewarded. Such is life for you. Whatever they didn't achieve or enjoy,we their children will do it for them. My sincere prayers. |
