Need To Upgrade My Laptop Ram! Need Help! by Wynd44: 8:08pm On Nov 25, 2021
Hello house! Good evening
Without wasting your time, I want to upgrade my laptops ram
It’s currently having 8 gigs of ram, and it’s been slowing down a lot of late and I can’t run after effects or primeire pro on it

So I checked and realized I can just upgrade my ram from 8gb to 32gb, and that’d at least help out my situation a bit

Ps I have 2 ram slots

Now my qiestions are
1. What type of ram am I buying exactly, cause I can see there are different types. The one in my system presently is the SODIMM varient
2. How much will it cost me to upgrade from 8gb to 16gb or if I choose to go all the way to 32gb?
3. Is there any important thing I need to know before doing this?

My PCs specs

Core i3-7100u 2.4gHz
Intel HD 620 Graphics card

I do some after effects with a bit of 3D as well as photoshop and Pr pro. I work with 720p and 1080p footage a lot so I need more ram

Thanks!

You didn't state the laptop name
Yeah, there's the ddr3 type of ram common with older models and ddr4 with newer laptop models so you have to find out which one, if your ram is soldered into the motherboard it can't be upgraded.
If you want 32gb ram you'll be getting two 16gb ram sticks, then you'll have to discard the 8gb or find someone who'll counter balance the deal for you.
32gb ddr4 is expensive, 8gb is about 15k so do the math.
There a high change the upgrade or ram will.be done where you purchase the ram, but if you want to do it yourself, just get that default Philips screw driver then a follow up YouTube tutorial.
Then again I don't think i3 is a productivity processor and the absence of a proper dedicated graphics maybe the cause of the stuttering, 32gb is over kill but it'll help, I just feel 16gb is optimum,
Cause there are laptops with 8gb ram that handle 3d productivity well, because of the i5/i7, coupled with like 2gb dedicated.
It's all you sha
Best of luck, weeb¡

Thanks for this so much
Yeah, I know the cpu is not too good, but the crashing of Ae started when I updated my PC and before then, after effects was running quite fine.
Ever since I updated it, it’s been crashing when I try to ram preview angry it’s just so frustrating
I’m planning to upgrade the ram and then reinstall Windows when I’m done with doing all that so the bug can just leave
I’ll upgrade to 16gb, I feel it’ll help cause my laptop quickly runs outta ram these days
And additionally, I don’t think the ram I soldered to the board cause it explicitly says it has 2 ram slots, one which is empty

It’s a Inspiron 15-3567

you have a good laptop specs. Core i3 7th generation is no childs play. and the intel Hd 620 is still decent enough. though a dedicated Nvidia will be best, due to the kind of job you are using it for. 16gb ram is okay enough. you don't need 32gb ram, its waste of money and and the extral unutilized memory. try to always update your drivers up to date.
