Please Explain This Verse Matthew 19:29 by tctrills(op): 8:41am On Dec 05, 2021
Matthew 19:29
And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.
Is God promising the righteous, land, children, and family in heaven?

Nope, His promise is everlasting life in paradise that brings much more satisfaction, peace and joy than children, houses etc.

Jesus is simply saying just as Satan tempted him with all these things and failed

He would tempt you too, if you overcome all these for him you would be rewarded

Before you can understand what Jesus meant there you need to consider what led to that statement.

It was one faithful day in the ministry with Jesus that he said something about God's Kingdom and how difficult it will be for many to enter:

Then Jesus said to his disciples: “Truly I say to you that it will be difficult for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of the heavens. Again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to get through a needle’s eye than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of God. Matthew 19:23-24

His disciples became frightened so they asked him:
When the disciples heard that, they were greatly astounded, saying: “Who really can be saved?" Matthew 19:25

Then Jesus replied:
Looking at them intently, Jesus said to them: “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible. Matthew 19:26

That's why Peter asked him:
Then Peter said in reply: “Look! We have left all things and followed you; what, then, will there be for us?” Matthew 19:27

Before Jesus now said what you're quoting now:

Jesus said to them: “Truly I say to you, in the re-creation, when the Son of man sits down on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will sit on 12 thrones, judging the 12 tribes of Israel. And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or lands for the sake of my name will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit! Matthew 19:

Now the PRACTICAL APPLICATION!
After Jesus' teachings became popular among the Jews, the religious title chiefs of the first century felt threatened that they're becoming irrelevant before their people so they made plans to stop Jesus' teachings from spreading further. They began expelling anyone who believes (trust) in Jesus' teaching from the Temple! John 9:22
Now think of those who are following Jesus up and down, surely their families, friends and even neighbours will not like to have anything to do with them. That's why Peter asked Jesus the question:

“Look! We have left all things and followed you; what, then, will there be for us?” Matthew 19:27

Jesus is telling them that if they trust fully in what he taught them as message from their God they will have families in Christ throughout the earth that will be more than the families and houses they're loosing.

Today if someone is one of Jehovah's Witnesses (Jesus' true disciples) such a person already have brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, children, houses and jobs waiting for him in any part of the world where JWs are.
Such a person will only suffer persecution in the midst of his families, friends and relatives who are limited in number but afterwards he/she will gain a hundred folds throughout the earth, an assurance that you're already enjoying what God promised us in Paradise where everywhere you go everyone is your family, you're no stranger anywhere you go in Paradise!

Jesus said: “Truly I say to you, no one has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for my sake and for the sake of the good news who will not get 100 times more now in this period of time—houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and fields, with persecutions—and in the coming system of things, everlasting life. Mark 1:29-30

So if you're not experiencing the 100 folds of brothers, sisters, mothers and fathers now there's no certainty that you're truly a Christian because that's what Jesus promised his disciples that they will get in this system of things before they have everlasting life in the future when God's Kingdom comes.

May you have PEACE! smiley

It means, if you can ignore materialism, you will have something more valuable and everlasting in heaven.
