Why live as fraudsters, thieves, looters and criminals of all sorts? Wheelbarrowing is a method of transportation just like buses, trains, cars, etc. It is very resourceful and those who use it as their means of livelihood take in plenty of money daily.

There are people out there who have invested a lot of money into wheelbarrowing. They rent them out to those hardworking men and women you see in the markets, who transport goods for those in need. It is an honorable means of livelihood, far more decent and honorable than scamming people as a means of livelihood.

Now what is wrong with a local government renting it out as a means of revenue generation? Local governments rent out their caterpillars for road repair or rehabilitation. They generate revenue that way. If it pays the local government, why not?



When PMB said “you are lazy”, he actually was referring to certain youths like those who think that wheelbarrowing belongs only to the poor. Those youths who feel that crime is the only ladder they have to get to the top.

We must commend the local government for that idea please.

I wonder what mentality you are referring to in your comment. Don’t make yourself sound like a typical white man who has never been to Africa, yet he thinks Africans live in trees. Tell me, with empowerment programs, which part of the country have you seen better things given to the citizens to lift them up? We have seen a wooden bridge in Lagos constructed and commissioned, proudly, by hon. Desmond Elliot. We have seen in Lagos as in other states, where local government chairmen give out hair dryers, barbing equipment, etc. what about the north, where citizens have been handed over goats as “benefits of democracy”? If you have justified those, why then would you think giving out wheelbarrows is improper?

“How will your leaders build infrastructural development in the east”? May I ask if you have ever been to the Southeast? I hope you are not like southwesterners who have not ventured out of their communities and talk about other areas on the basis of hear say? Aside from Lagos, Oyo and Ogun states, what can you say about Ekiti, Osun and Ondo states? Why have you not held the political leaders responsible for their deliberate under development of these states?

If a local government chairman chooses to give out wheelbarrows and wants his people to be accountable by paying some amounts into the accounts of the local government, what is bad about it? I ask this same question again. Maybe you do not know that some wheelbarrow people rake in close to ten thousand naira a day or more, depending on the area. This is easily verifiable and you can check.

“The east will never have good leaders”? Who says? How do you define good leaders? The leaders that you voted for, how many of them are of benefit to you? Do you know your councilor, local government chairman, not to talk of members of the state and National Assemblies? How many have given you the “benefits of democracy”?

Stop being blinded by unnecessary dislike for Igbo people. That our country suffers a serious leadership problem is no longer a secret. You have countless politicians from the Southwest who have cases of looting with the EFCC.
