Social media giant, Facebook has announced that Nigerians will pay 7.5 percent value-added tax (VAT) on all ad placements from January 1, 2022.



The charge will also apply to those buying ads for businesses or personal purposes. Those exempted from VAT would be able to recover the fund if they provided their tax ID.



The new 7.5 percent VAT charge will also apply to Instagram ads. The statement read;



“Due to implementation of a value-added tax (VAT) in Nigeria, Facebook is required to charge VAT on the sale of ads to advertisers, regardless of whether you’re buying ads for business or personal purposes.

“All advertisers with a business country of Nigeria will be charged an additional 7.5% VAT on advertising services purchased beginning 1 January 2022.

“If you’re registered for VAT and provide your VAT ID, your VAT ID will show up on your ads receipts.

“In the event that you’re entitled to recover the VAT, this may help you recover any VAT you paid to the Nigerian tax authorities if you are a VAT registered business in Nigeria.”

Honestly, I seemed not to understand what this administration is up to , everything is about taking the hard earned money of the citizenry as taxes, for instance if you deposit money in the bank, you pay tax, if you want to check your account balance on your phone or in your bank you pay, if you want to withdraw the money for a transaction you pay again, if you buy a recharge card to your phone you pay tax, if you convert the airtime to data you pay again, if you borrow airtime you pay tax , if you try to borrow data you're paying tax too , if you make calls with the airtime you pay VAT , if you browse with your data you pay again, if you start your own business you pay taxes from your profit ,if government employed you you're expected to be paying taxes again, if you buy car from cotonou you pay tax,if you buy from Nigeria you pay again, if you fuel your car you pay tax , if you enter a taxi you pay again, if you obtain documents and particulars for your vehicle you pay tax ,if your vehicle doesn't have particulars you pay tax also, if you buy a product you pay tax ,if you want to run an Advert to resell your product on social media you're going to pay tax again...

Am loving this. All of us must pay that tax

So Nigerians are the ones paying for this, why can't you charge Facebook a fee for doing business in Nigeria?

It's a civic duty to expose Buhari for what he is

Pres. Buhari has done nothing but heap more unbearable on his people (nigerians). A total monumental and collosal failure in all sectors of the economy.

Anything you charge Facebook, they will transfer the cost back to Nigerians one way or the other.
