l will pick the Honda Civic

Buy the civic but from 2009 or even 2010 to be on a safe side because as from 2006 to early 2009 is prone to cracked engine blocks. If a cracked engine leaks enough coolant, it can overheat and fail completely.
Civic much more reliable, fun to drive and quite peppy.with cheaper parts and low maintenance compared to optima.
I would even choose a 2008 elantra over optima.

Note civic has a low ground clearance
