As I told raumdeuter, there is a big difference between socialism and communism. In communism, the government owns all means of production, which means no private ownership of lands or companies. It's all run by the government with the aim of equality amongst all. This system has the adverse effects of creating corrupt autocracies.

But socialism exists within a democratic system. Here, the people do have a say on where their money should be spent while still having a capitalist economy.

These public services are a means to creating equal access to opportunities. The social security system, and the free education and health care were legislated to try and create EQUITY not necessarily EQUALITY.
For instance, in Africa, there are some pregnant women who don't have money to have proper health care who end up delivering their babies in very unsanitary conditions in their homes. Leading to high maternal and mortality rate.

Developed nations were able to solve this menace by taxing people and using that money to create a free healthcare system for the pregnant. Now pregnant women can deliver their babies for free, the rich ones can even get much better healthcare.
In communism, this would be outlawed as the focus is not equality, not necessarily equity.

Government must do more to bridge the gap between the rich and the poor. It should be an ideal.

How does free healthcare translate to better opportunities?

Healthcare is not free in Yankee btw, and it's a developed country

How does free primary and secondary schooling create equity? Equity in what exactly? You do realise that university degrees are typically not free right? To get the best degrees, from the best universities, to gain access to the best opportunities in the job market....you have to pay through your nose to enter - Oxbridge, LSE, Havard, Stanford,Yale - these places will cost you an arm and a leg, and some students might even graduate from these schools in 100k+ debts in student loans.

Wealth has always been concentrated in the hands of a few. That hasn't stopped developed countries from actually...developing.

Providing public services is not the same as lessening inequality. If you are an unemployed UK citizen, the government will put you on monthly stipend so you don't starve. They will put you in subsidised accomodation so you are not homeless. They will ensure that you have access to free healthcare via the NHS, and that your children have access to free quality education.

What they will not do is try to equalise you with the rich. In the same UK, most of the elite attend what we call public schools, the most famous/popular (Eton) of which cost £30k a year. For reference, average annual salary in UK is 25-29k a year. Eton has produced more prime ministers than any other schools in a country where secondary school education is Free

In a country that has over 50 universities, there's a reason why most of its prime ministers attended Oxford.

That should tell you the difference between inequality and public service.

If you do not allow a man to become stinkingly rich as a reward for his innovation, he will not innovate and your economy will never grow. That's what happened in Russia and China under Stalin and Mao, and both leaders had to literally force people to work on the pain of death to stimulate economic growth...which was not not sustainable and resulted in catastrophic death tolls in both countries.

Can you give me a practical explanation for how the Nigerian Government can solve this issue in particular.
.

Can you agree with that these acts of the UK government have already lessened the gap between the rich and the poor. The poor are given the chance to assimilate into the civilized world in order become the best possible version of themselves. Without these, what you will see is a country with few enlightened people and too many uneducated and ignorant people, and this retards civilization and economic development.

Answering this question is the same providing solution to the litany of economic challenges facing Nigeria. This problem at Umuahala is the same problem in Lagos, Abuja, PH etc.

Nigeria is a populous country with little investement to cater for her populace. Which means that too many people depend on the little investement of the few rich to survive, and because of this, they are poor.

Solving this problem requires a lot too numerous to mention. But at the grassroot, we can start with sound education.

And therein lies the point. It's ok to talk about inequality until it's time to recommend a practical solution -because there isn't one.

Of course, it is impossible for everyone to be equal. But it can be reduced. This is the difference between developed countries like UK and undeveloped countries like Nigeria.

What reasonable governments do is to try to lessen the gap between the rich and the poor with the aim of improving standard of living. No country can achieve sustainable development when her wealth rests only in the hands of few.

Government make policies targeted at breaking the vicious circle of poverty within its populace. One of these policies is to fight the evils of capitalism which keeps the economy in redundancy.

Let's take for example the Chinese owned company Inner Galaxy Group at Umuahala, Ukwa West LGA, Abia state. Their workers are mostly villagers who are terribly exploited and treated like slaves. They work from 6am to 7pm, with little pay. What these workers earn can only be spent on consumption with no savings. Because they have no savings, they can not invest to create more job opportunities in their village. Because they can't invest, they have to depend on Inner Galaxy Group. All things being equal, Umuahala can never witness development due to "low rate of capital formation", which is the major problem of undeveloped country.

One of the causes of this low rate of capital formation is extreme inequalities in income distribution. This is because, only a few percentage of the economy can save effectively and most of the time, this few percentage invest in unproductive channels like golds and other precious stones, real estates, foreign currency etc. Others will prefer to buy luxurious items due to what is termed the "demonstration effect". That is, rich people of underdeveloped countries trying to imitate rich people of developed countries. These acts distorts real investment.

Government providing some of these things you called public services, they are subtly arming her citizens with warheads to break the vicious circle of poverty; this will lead to more savings and investement which will translate to economic development.

Everyone cannot be equal, but governments should try to bridge the distance between the extremely rich and the extremely poor, so that sustainable economic development can be attained.

I am strictly speaking from the economic perspective; morality or ethics has no basis here.

We cannot divorce economic thinking from the following; emotion, logic, morality, empathy, and social standing. A true progressive society is one where justice is served not equality, equal opportunities won't guarantee equal outcomes, we can't pay the eager-beevers the same amount as goofers it will disincentivize people from striving; having said this we should strive to provide for those who lack opportunities not for want of trying but because of circumstances they find themselves in.
For instance in Islam Muslims who are wealthy are commanded to remit 2.5℅ of their wealth after they have taken care of their needs, this amount will be redistributed to the poor, wayfarers, orphans etc, in the same vein people are encouraged to not depend on handouts from people so there's balance you are expected to work and help those who by virtue of circumstances they are unable to meet their needs.

What shall it profit a man to look good on the ball, while his midfield is uncompetitive and gets penetrated by opposition at will

Have you watched this Dejong closely? the guy's regressed terribly compared to his days at Ajax
He regressed due to Barca incompetent coaches Playing him in different positions and even using him as a center back. We saw how deadly and brilliant he was under a competent Coach and system at Ajax. Put Dejong at Man City and the entire Europe will be drooling over him.

He played centreback for many matches too for Ajax and still held his own, played DM, played CM too when he was there and excelled. Aside the atletico match where he played as a makeshift right midfielder he's been playing same positions at Barcelona as he did at Ajax. what I see is another Pogba situation where fans would say he needs to be played in a specific spot and all his deficiencies taken up by his teammates for him to thrive. we need to realise some players just don't improve like we expect them to

Good to bench Lukaku, he is not way forward in this club. Chelsea always get it wrong int he process of getting it right already, I mean you are building technical play already why sign a brawn striker with average technicality and poor pressing with no movement. This is why pep spend much, he doesn’t tolerate physical players with little technicality.

High IQ does not equate with laziness

Neither does stamina and hardwork equate with low IQ

Such is a lazy mans refrain.

The boy plays with Busquet and Pedri, two highest IQ players. He has no excuse for his midfield turning into highway since he is surrounded by so much IQ. IQ that can't run is as useless as having Prof Stephen Hawkins on the pitch.

Imagine telling Jurgen Klopp you can't press well because you have high IQ and low physicality.

Spurs fans are calling for Hojberg to be made captain. That's a player fans appreciate unlike Jogginhoe who half his fans hate and constantly call for his replacement.
