The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) says it was unable to establish allegations of corruption against Yewande Sadiku, former CEO and executive secretary of the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC).

In a letter dated December 16 and addressed to the CEO of NIPC, the ICPC said it received a petition against Sadiku and some other officials of the NIPC accusing them of mismanaging public funds.

According to the ICPC, the allegations are summarised as “fraudulent abuse of office; waste and mismanagement of public funds by the executive secretary of the NIPC through incessant tours and travels within and outside Nigeria without adding value to the Commission”.

Sadiku was also alleged to have “embarked on foreign trips without express approval of the governing council of the commission; used the commission’s fund to repair her damaged personal vehicle”, as well as received “illegal foreign leave allowance”.

However, Akeem Lawal, ICPC director of operations, in the letter said the commission couldn’t find evidence to confirm the allegations.

“Upon investigation, none of these allegations was established, and the striking out of suit No FAC/ABJ/CS/249/2019 by his lordship Hon. justice A.R. Mohammed of the federal high court of Nigeria, Abuja division, brings the investigation to a close,” the letter reads.

Sadiku, who was appointed executive secretary/CEO of NIPC in 2016, completed her five-year tenure in October.

In August, the NIPC had issued a statement saying Sadiku voluntarily honoured an invitation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), contrary to reports that she was arrested and detained over allegations of contract fraud.

That’s the Nigerian public sector for you, once you don’t play ball they would build a case against you.

Just take a look at the flimsy charges they levied against her, when their fellows are diverting billions into personal accounts.

I am not surprised that nothing was found on her. She's a thoroughly clean and clear person.
I am sure she's still going to serve in a higher public office someday. I still remember her making a strong appeal in that small room of professionals that day pleading with top class professionals to join politics and be part of governance. She lamented that we left the public civil service for mostly the backbenchers of our secondary school and university yet turn around to wonder why our public service is poor in service delivery.

Since the current head of the NIPC who happens to be the first from the South was appointed, Yewande Sadiku has been embroiled in one legal tussle or the other since she assumed office as NIPC Executive Secretary. This is usually instigated by the usual quarters.

2019,
Ali Sani versus Yewande Sadiku.
Yusuf Mustapha versus Yewande Sadiku
Babangida Nguroje versus Yewande Sadiku

2020,
Aura Maisamari versus Yewande Sadiku

If you check the writer of the petition the Efcc is acting on, you will see that it will be from the usual suspects. They are pained that a Southerner occupies a position that has never been occupied by a Southerner.

Here's the list of former Executive Secretaries of the NIPC
Mustapha Bello
Abdulkadir Hassan
Saratu Umar

This is the same thing they did to Mrs. Azinge of the Corporate Affairs Commission until she was hounded out of office. She was the first Registrar General of the Cac from the South in more than 2 decades.

While most Northerners are sensible and willing to work with anyone, there are a few Northerners who feel that they can't work with a Southerner and feel certain public sector offices are their birthright. The irony is that those with this kind of mentality are very dumb and unproductive. That mentality is a very foolish one and people like that need to be disgraced and cut to size.

Me too. That lady has an impeccable integrity. Few Nigerians can match her disposition, very few. EFCC keeps embarrassing itself. I am so ashamed.

I had a thing to do with the NIPC and saw the interpretation that Saratu Umar gave on a related matter, turning the law on its head even after reading the express provisions of the NIPC Act. I had to work with Yewande Sadiku to correct the position of the law and got my approval. These people from the Northern Hemisphere ehnn...

It could be that the aim of her detractors and accusers was just to get her out of the office by any means or methods possible.

There should be a spelt out punishment for frivolous accusations.

Prior to NIPC, she was at NEXIM.
Mrs. Umar was compulsorily asked to retire from the service of NEXIM on the infamous grounds of low performance, incompetence and lack of regard for constituted authority.

100% correct. Yewande and corruption could not have been found in one sentence. She is competent, self-assured, brilliant, and has an unimpeachable measure of integrity.
