Goodday nairalanders.

What would you advise for someone who is buying a Nigerian used 2010 corolla(south African spec).

Giving that this versions onLy come in as brand-new, and also considering that they are generally cheaper to purchase than their American spec counterparts
.
What are the things to look out for when buying!?

Is it a good buy.

I intend to get a clean one for bolt.

Will it hold up like the American specs would.

Your advice and contributions will go a long way.

The South African one has a smaller engine size and generally doesn’t hold up like the American version asssuming both are in same condition. I think you should look beyond the external and and check how properly maintained by the last owner before purchase. Confirm engine and transmission is sound before you purchase.

Good luck

The south African model of this Corolla has been known to just go up in flames without any causative factors grin

I believe it has something to do with the ABS unit issues. But do your research well before you buy

The spec is okay as you can still see them on the road till tomorrow.. however the build quality is not up to the American spec, the materials degrade faster.. the engine and transmission is just as good as the American spec..

It’s a cheaper alternative

people are here debating despite Toyota being the next best thing to happen to mankind after noah's ark??...una funny o.see me thinking that u can never go wrong with a Toyota even if na from Niger republic grin

except the yankee spec has kevlar as part of its body composition,I do not not see why build quality of SA spec will be inferior to yankee spec. Its natural that people will av a bias towards yankee specs as against the ones bought new here since abroad kazeems can be trusted for handling a car for almost 10 years more than the naija kazeems.other than that, the rest na just Toyota fan boys trying to out do each other

SA spec will go up in flames because of the abs unit being tampered with....not because its just feeling fly grin

also,SA spec wey be manual wey get 1.3l engine plus that 6speed transmission make better sense...for those wey like manual sufferhead sha grin

it's simply cheaper to buy SA spec because na new dem buy am for here

that gli beautiful die!!!unlike the yankee xle wey just bland like agbalumo grin

South Africa Toyota corolla is one the best ever produced, I have used one and the experience was sweet and interesting.

Fuel consumption was very low, shocks very durable, 6-speed gear manual movement like jet.

The good thing is that you can change for 1ZR (1.3 to 1.6)to 2ZR engine 1.8

American version is better except for fuel consumption because Japanese cars for the American market have larger engines. Safety standards are higher in America ... even higher than in Japan. Peugeot was yanked from the US for safety reasons... don't see them don't know if they still don't make the cut.
Better version... American... but comes with a much higher price. The new Corollas are hott ....especially the hatchback sport.

If you drive 6-speed to hear south Africa corolla, you will abandon the automatic corolla.

Driving a 6-speed gear south corolla model makes you feel like a movie star, you can never get bored, the movement of the car is exciting, fuel consumption and parts are extremely cheap, don't stay at home and ask mechanic to go buy parts for you. Enter market
