People get their financial details stolen from clicking and opening emails, pop-ups, text messages. You don’t have to be greedy just naive and your life savings can be gone in an instant.

For instance I receive emails from fake PayPal websites and similar websites asking me to update my financial information. Not everybody is that IT savvy. Think of if your old school dad, mum, or uncles received such an email. They update the details through the link and their money disappears.

Victim blaming such as blaming the person who was swindled, the girl who was raped e.t.c is wrong. This country is doomed judging from the type of youths that we are producing now that can openly defend such crimes.

So an elderly woman whose children are doing quite well for themselves decided to put up a trust account for her that holds sizeable millions of naira. The purpose of opening the account is for them to deposit cash for mama’s upkeep in the course of the year and also celebrate her birthday when it falls due without having to resort to emergency contributions.

Unknowingly some yahoo guys got access to the email address that sends mandate for withdrawal on the account anytime there’s need to make withdrawal. The email address has the name “ IDOWU” as part of it. Just like how nairaland guys clone email addresses , they cloned the email by using “IDOVVU “ By replacing “W” with “V V “ put close together .

The banking officer who was eager to leave for home on a Friday evening by past 4 just sent for approval without checking thoroughly . That was how 1 million naira left the account. In the course of the week another mandate was sent from the fraudulent account , but luckily a complaint mail came from the real account complaining unauthorized debit. The matter escalated , the staff of the bank involved in the authorization processs had to replace the cash to save their jobs.

This my elderly friend and his team has to step in to at least get the culprits and recover the stolen funds. Their partnership with the Nigerian policemen led to tracing the destination of the cash to one young undergraduate in one of the eastern state universities. He was arrested , transferred to Lagos and his father had to come down to Lagos to negotiate for his release. They guy confessed how some senior men used his bank account to run the money laundering aspect of the fraud while he got small cash to chop life out of it.

Eventually his father returned the money and paid police serious money to bail him. Now if these bank staff weren’t lucky to have had the money recovered by the police and my elderly friend , don’t u think someone on the other side of the system would’ve called them greedy / foolish ?

FBI has been collaborating with EFCC yet no positives so far; I remember when FBI were working closely with EFCC in Lagos for months, you could see them in lekki, ajah axis making arrests yet no positive result...sadly this Yahoo will still continue with the parents are supporting their kids this days, it becoming so worst that SS1 student; U-13 are already into fraud...many people have dropped out of school because of this Yahoo.

Still go to the bank to complain. Ask to see Resident auditor if possible or if you can get mail of fraud desk or ICA unit it will help. You have to keep sending reminder though so they keep in touch with the other bank who will now get in touch with the customer

Most victims are naturally greedy which makes them fall prey to the predators.
For example someone tells you to invest $500 and earn $6000 in a week and you, blinded by greed foolishly send him the money hoping to make 1000% in a week without doing anything. The world is a jungle. you are either the predator or the prey.

The highest form of fraud, cheating, oppression, bribery and corruption in Nigeria are carried in legal firms and companies.

Pastors preach against crime and sin, but will gladly collect money from fraudsters and pray for them.

Business owners frown against fraud online because they know how it feels to be scammed as businessmen, but they worship these fraudsters offline when they start patronizing them.

People receive their cash back when paid into a wrong account or scammed in Nigeria.

Get yourself a personal account manager, make sure you have a proof that you were scammed. This proof must not be about investment or anything that will clearly show you were being greedy.

They need consent first before making use of any other means(court, Force, threats etc) Many people for Nigeria no well o.

The cashier realised it after the depositor came to complain days after or the colleague/auditor discovered the error.

It is good you didn't transfer the money into another account or saw it as manna from above.
You saved the cashier/transfer officer without you knowing.
