I highly doubt they preferred selling Martinez. Both were available. Martinez for £80m, Lukaku for £100m, nobody came for Martinez. Inter took a £100m loan early in the year to stay afloat through the pandemic, and another loan last year, they would have sold both. Besides Martinez is young and can be sold at any time, while Lukaku best-by date is approaching. If it's you, you will first sell your expiring stock knowing you can sell the other one later.
