Import substitution in Africa failed like it's failing in Nigeria - because you're buying cement at 3 times...imports would be even much cheaper...maybe 4 times cheaper.

Infant industry protection is hard to pull in a corrupt country like Nigeria - and it has to be done for a short time. Few Asian countries managed to pull it - it takes discipline, strictness and has to be done for a very shortwhile - because an infant cannot grow forever- at expense of everyone - you kill it

Now you 1) import restriction, 2) arbitrage- selling dollars to dangote at almost half the black market rate, giving him cheap loans - and the results inflation double digit every year - many nigerians have been driving into deep poverty - while a few dangotes are becoming billionaires.

Lagos slums for instance, stretches all the way from the CBD to Makoko. I call that city a slum integrated for a reason. When you take a drone shot of their CBD, you'll not tell a difference between it and kibera.

There are low lands in Nsawam that supports coconut farming but that is beside the point........Accra would soon merge with Volta region, there are no available lands to buy close to the roads on the stretch from Tema all the way to Dawa. Sooner than later,the expansion will reach Ada were farmers would give up their watermelon and tomatoes farms for buildings.But you don't see any problem there for reasons best known to you.

Accra has already merged with Central Region and has gotten as far as Potsin ...... Driving pineapple farmers to acquire new lands .... As long as people are building good houses and building their own economic centers to live in and utilities easily build the infrastructure... There's no real problem.

It will be sad to see it catch up with Ada..that area is a bread basket.
