in every government, there's always a group or faction in the military who would be loyal to that particular govt in power. Worst case , he'd arrange a couple with his allies in the military. He had the power. All he needed was give an order by deploying those he felt might wish to counter him to places where they'd have no access to the armoury. 24 hours is too short to carry out this task. He was a coward ni. Are you aware there was a coup attempt a few months ago in this country? It was foiled. You'd never know or hear about this cos it was kept in utmost secrecy. Same happened when obj was in power. He was out of the country and there qas an attempt. He simply told them they should overthrow him and when he returned, he'd get back his mandate. Shonekan would have succeeded and nothing would have happened .

You're so correct and your writeup shows you were much aware of the goings on as of that time. Let me remind you of this, are you aware that IBB formerly handed over to Shinekan in a grand ceremony and parade? He had the powers to do and undo as of that time. He was in charge of all the forces and signed for their salary and all. Being a minister of defence is different from being the number one man. Sonekan ought to have immediately called for the appointment of a new chief of defence staff immediately he took office but he didn't. As a leader, you shouldn't be afraid of any unforseen event and that makes you a leader. That rare opportunity was what some people were looking for, to make a change. No fulaniman would have messed up such a great opportunity. Sonekan was a very soft man. Anyway that's the past. We can't change it.
