AFCON: Nigeria's Victory Over Egypt Break The Pharaoh's 16-Game Unbeaten Record by Enenim(op): 2:51am On Jan 12, 2022

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have defeated the Pharaohs of Egypt 1-0 in their group stage encounter at the ongoing 33rd Africa Cup of Nations on Tuesday in Garoua, Cameroon.

Super Eagles, who top Group D with the victory, were dominant and impressive in the game.

With today’s victory, Nigeria broke Egypt’s unbeaten record. Pharaohs were unbeaten in their last 16 group matches at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Before now, Egypt’s last defeat in the group phase dates back to the 2004 tournament when they lost 2-1 against Algeria.

Kelechi Iheanacho scored the only goal in the game in the 30th minute with an assist from Taiwo Awoniyi.

Yesterdays performance by the Super Eagles was highly commendable. They lost several chances.
Defeating a North African team in AFCON opening game goes a long way to boost the chances of the team in the tournament. Almighty Sallah was caged and neutralised, i hope they keep it up.
Kudos to Eguavon, he was on his feet throughout the match

I don't know what changed in the second half, the eagles played better and dominated in the second first half

They played well. But there's a lot to do before the next game. They look raw, they missed so many chances to make the game 2 or 3 nil and kill off the match. If you try that with a good side, you won't win the game. Plus we shouldn't over celebrate, Egypt were very poor yesterday.
