Without the help of a Virtual Private Network (VPN) on Thursday, Nigerians were able to access Twitter, a micro-blogging platform, banned in the country early June last year, TODAY POLITICS observed.

The restored access came after the social media networking giant accepted the conditions handed to it by the Nigerian government which announced the lifting of the ban Wednesday evening.

One of the conditions reached by the parties is the empowerment of government officials to censor online ‘prohibited’ contents.

The regime had instructed telecom operators in the country to barred access to the social network but many Nigerians opted for the VPN to circumvent the ban despite being threatened with prosecution.

Twitter became inaccessible after the federal government alleged that subversive elements were using the platform to undermine the country’s sovereignty, a claim many Nigerians disputed, saying the deletion of President Muhammadu Buhari tweet deemed genocidal necessitated it.

Critics argue that the government was reacting to the bruise ego of the president which Twitter said violated its community standard. The international community also joined in condemning the ban, advising the government to backtrack, an advise the regime paid deaf ears to.

The ban lasted for 222 days, slightly some days above seven months but Nigerians are attributing the lifting to the closeness of the general election where politicians and political parties reach out to the people using the social media.

Presidential spokesmen and other government officials who tweeted early Thursday morning were seen by TODAY POLITICS describing the development as a victorious feat by the regime.

Twitter made a statement in which they said they don't know President Buhari and which country he runs.

When you're blinded by hate and self imposed narrow mindedness, you will applaud someone who is clearly insulting you.
Most Nigerians who are sympathetic with Twitter today don't know how much of an insult this comment is to even them.
They see Buhari as the target here but there are two elements in this insult.
Twitter says they don't know President Buhari.
But they didn't stop there.
They also added that they don't know the country he is leading. In other words they don't know Nigeria.

Twitter is brazenly saying they don't know Africas most populous nation and the country with the highest concentration of black people in the world. Twitter is brazenly saying they don't know a country where over 11 billion dollars of their revenue comes from with over 40 million subscribers.

Some years ago Pastor Chris Oyakhilome chose to use twitter to communicate some prayer information to Christ Embassy members worldwide.
Within few weeks Pastor Chris broke the records of having the most amount of followers within such a short period.

In their arrogance, Twitter called Pastor Chris' twitter account to question and described the followership as bogus.

Simply put, Twitter believed that nobody from a place like Nigeria had enough clout to garner such followership within such a short time - a feat that no Hollywood star was able to achieve -.

Pastor Chris wasn't prepared for their drama, he pulled out of twitter and challenged his church tech people to design a platform that the church can use. That's what gave birth to Yookos.

Today Yookos is a formidable competitor with Twitter so much so that ex President Barack Obama acknowledged the giant strides made by the platform within such a short time after it was launched.

Eventually twitter confirmed Pastor Chris' account and "apologized" but it was too late.
Pastor Chris had moved his huge followership into Yookos.

Several years later Twitter is saying that they don't know the country that the same Pastor Chris comes from.
That's arrogance taken too far.

Any Nigerian who tolerates this insult is just a self hating sychophant.

Someone says you and your country don't matter and you're jubilating.
Is that not a serious sickness?

On a lighter note,
*We heard someone telling his landlord that his rent money for the year is trapped in his Twitter account*

*The landlord too is now abusing Buhari grin cheesy wink grin cheesy wink

The FG is a jumbo pack of cluelessness and failure.
Instead of planning of how on how to better the life of it's citizenry they're banning and unbanning Twitter.
A failed government, always engaging in frivolities.

Twitter would also train Nigerian IT personnel and strategic intelligence officers

In all of these, this is the part We love most.
Thumbs up Twitter!

Slow and steady we will get to the nation of our dreams.

God bless Nigeria.

... believe me supporters of Buhari will go online to praise the president for banning Twitter and lifting the ban. They'll list things the ban has helped us to achieve. How that will help the nation fight corruption and insecurities.

They will tell us how the ban on Twitter helped and other ingenious tech companies to grow grin grin grin

But we know the truth. Elections are coming and they need the social media to campaign and tell us how Tinubu will turn Nigeria into Dubai when elected as President.

I thought they insisted that Twitter would have a physical office in Nigeria before the ban is lifted. Where's Twitter office in Nigeria now?

Politicians are actually smart and they know that a vast majority of Nigerians are daft.

Now, Lai Mohammed can use Twitter to propagate his endless lies ahead of 2023 elections. lipsrsealed

I missed nothing serious, cos anytime I want to be on twitter, I could easily do that.

Government should list the conditions, make it public so that we can beat our chest on how strong they are.

They probably not tired and lifted it for personal reasons.

A wise man once said, how daft he is represents how daft his supporters will be. Whenever I look at your post, I keep on agreeing.
What facts do you have to prove that twitter makes $11 billions annual from Nigeria. $11billion is almost half of its annual revenue. By the way do you know how twitter makes their money? They make it through advertisemen. Now how many Nigerians advertise on twitter?

Even Facebook that is popular among adverters don't make more than $5bn annual from Nigeria.

If only u are wise, you should have research and confirm the statement your daft leaders posted before spreading it. Nigeria has the lowest cpc with lowest conversion. They are not regarded even many social media blocked Nigeria from using their services
