was it boring
Not really, though not as interesting as the first one.

I’d rate it 5/10

I think it's the director and writer that needs a udemy course in project design.

The celestials look like all those giant power rangers villains.
Not someone who can't even execute an Instagram skit trying to diss Chloe Zhao.
Try understand wetin "project design" mean first. Maybe learn to apply context too. Gosh, you'd need a lot of lessons.

The old movies were solid, the 2018 one was bad. I’m also looking forward to the new one, The Predator franchise is one of my favourite.
Ah that's good to know. I read this new predator movie will be set in the past (the stone age) where a Comanche warrior protests his or her people from the predator.

Now, I'd have been baffled how a Comanche warrior, who wields an axe, bow and arrow and a knife can go up against a predator with its array of assorted weapons, if not what for what Dutch did to the first predator. Talk about almost fvcking somebody up. grin

It didn't feel like Predator one bit, more like Alligator.

Eternals (2021)
So I just saw Eternals and I have a lot to say. This is going to be a long post, so buckle up.

I’ve heard a lot of people say that is the most unMCU-like movie in the MCU and I agree with this sentiment. Apart from a few references to the wider cinematic universe, this movie feels very different from the other movies in the MCU- in tone, scope and in story.

MASSIVE SPOILERS AHEAD.

There were a lot of things I liked and a lot of things I hated about his movie, so as usual; I will just put my thoughts in a numbered list.

1. Things I liked:

Cinematography: I really liked the cinematography in this movie. There is lot of beautiful and awe inspiring shots and I really appreciated this. The golden constructs that some of the eternals make when they are using their powers is also really cool.

Acting: the acting was mostly good. But considering the budget and the fact that the movie is star studded, it comes as no surprise.

The speedster: I really liked Makkari as the speedster. I would even go as far as saying that this is one of the better depictions of a speedster running/ fighting in live action. There isn’t an overabundance of slow Mo when she runs and she really comes off as a formidable opponent. She doesn’t look awkward when she runs like the Flash.

Premise and backstory: the premise of this movie is quite audacious. The reveal that the creation and destruction of the Earth is part of the circle of life is a bold choice considering that the destruction the planet will give rise to other planets and other sentient beings. Though I wished the movie had leaned into the question of if the Eternals had the right to disrupt the natural order so as to save humanity.

Karun: Karun plays the role of Kingos valet and I think that he is one of the most likeable characters in the movie. He is no beauty, but I enjoyed watching the scenes he appeared in.

I also like that they didn’t make Druig the bad guy. At first he seemed like the obvious choice, but I’m glad it wasn’t him.

I also like that there wasn’t a love triangle and that Jon Snow and Rob Stark didn’t engage in petty squabble for Sersi’s love.

2. Pacing one of the biggest issues that plague this movie is its pacing. This is a very ambitious movie that has a lot of things going on for it. A lot of subplots are flying all over the place. Think about it.

----This is a love story between Icarus and Sersi. If their love isn’t properly developed, the ending of the movie will feel very flat. And to say the truth, their relation isn’t well developed (we will circle back to this point later).

----Also, it’s about the war between the Eternals and the Deviants

----Also, also it’s a story about the bond between the Eternals and how this bond transforms over time.

----Also, also, also, it’s a story about the worth of human life

----Also also, also, also, it’s a story about the Celestials and the destruction of earth

So, how exactly are you going to handle all these subplots in 2 and half hours of runtime and still have time to flesh out your large casts of characters? The truth is you can’t. A better option would have been to make this a mini-series like Wandavision, FAWS, or Loki. This would have given the story more time to breath.

Let us also not forget about Jon Snow who made an extremely random discovery about his ancestry and there is a reveal of a sword at the end of the movie that just comes out of nowhere.

3. Chemistry: the chemistry of the characters in this movie can be very hit or miss. The chemistry between Makkari and Druig is fun, flirty and natural.
The chemistry between Gilgamesh and Angelina Jolie as friends was quite believable. However, the chemistry between Icaruis and Sersi was seriously lacking. Somehow I’m supposed to believe that these people have been in love with each other for thousands of years and then left things unresolved? No sir. I don’t buy it.

4. The powers are lame: ok. Not all the powers are lame, but most of them are lame. Think of this, you’re an all-powerful being and you want to create beings that can fight and kill these incredibly powerful and durable dinosaur-esque creatures that you also created. These creatures that you need them to destroy can mutate and become even stronger; they can also breed and increase their population. So what kind of characters should you create?

a. A little girl that can create illusions. The illusions she creates are not real, so they can’t harm the deviants. I’m sure her powers will be super handy during kid’s birthday parties.

b. A man who can control the minds of human beings but not the minds of the deviants. But to make matters worse, you instructed him to not control humans but let them have their free will. SO WHAT EXACTLY IS DRUIG SUPPOSED TO DO??

c. A woman who can slowly heal herself and other. It’s not an offensive ability but it still has its uses in a war so I’m more forgiving of this power.

d. A man who is good with technology. Hmmmm

If I was in the Celestials shoes (LOL), I would create superman-like character. People who are very durable, can fly, can punch really hard and can heal very quickly, and have an offensive powers like laser vision or can create weapons from nothing. Maybe you can make one of them really good with technology. In reality you only need like 3 or 4 of these types of characters in order to wipe out the deviants.

Come to think of it, the deviants can be easily eradicated by the AVENGERS; because they don’t really pose that much of a threat. The main issue is that most of the Eternals have really shitty power.

I’m also really confused about their power scaling. Is Icarus invulnerable to physical Trauma? Why does Icarus have more than one power while the others have only one power?

5. CGI: Eternals really gives you a taste of the whole CGI spectrum. It boasts of good, bad and ugly CGI. The most egregious use of CGI has to be the end credit scene where Pip appears to the Eternals along with Harry Styles.

Pip literally looks like a PS2 character from the early 2000s.

6. Story: the story is ok. I even said previously that the premise is bold. Unfortunately, the more you think about it, the less sense it makes.

For instance, why couldn’t the Celestial tell the Eternals he created their exact goal? It’s very easy to rationalize that their goal is to maintain the natural order of things. And if they knew what their goals were, they would not get attached to the humans.

They were instructed not to intervene in human conflict, but wouldn’t it be more beneficial for them to intervene? To prevent wars, pandemics and famines and ensure that the population of the world increases at a more exponential rate.

Why do the Eternals have free will if they are basically robots?

Why did the Celestial tell them not to interfere with the Thanos situation (not like they could have done much. I still believe that the Avengers are more competent than them) Thanos not only wiped out half of the population on earth but in all planets that exist. Which will result in a delay of the birth of the Celestial on Earth and other planets. They could have resolved this by just saying that they didn’t know the full extent of Thanos’ plan and that once the snap had happened, they didn’t know it could be undone. At least that explanation would have made more sense.

At the end, Sersi says that she has residual energy left and offers to turn sprit human. What!!!! Why don’t you just age her UP.? Isn’t that what she wanted? Wouldn’t that be a lot easier than turning a machine into a human being?

What role does the evolved deviant serve? It seemed like they were going to somewhere with it, but the just didn’t. For some reason, only one deviant turns up for the final fight and gets killed off. Why even bother?

7. Characters/character motives: like I said previously, this movie has way too many characters. If they Eternals were fewer, it would have served the story better by exploring and developing them better which will result in a more emotional reaction from the audience when one of them dies.

· Before Kingo disappears from the movie, he says that all the Eternals can’t defeat Icarus. And this just circles back to what I said earlier about power scaling. How powerful is Icarus? But it doesn’t really matter much and we soon find out that Kingo is either dumb, a liar or he grossly overestimated how powerful Icarus is because we clearly see the speedster alongside few other eternals kick his ass and subdue him. If Kingo was there, they could have finished him off.

· Sprite wants to be a grown woman but doesn’t she have ability to create illusions? Why can’t she just make herself look like an adult? An Ability we see her use. But why can’t she maintain the illusion for a very long time. Again this still circles back to poorly defined power scaling. Sprite also literally stabs Sersi in the back, doesn’t apologize and everyone is cool with it.

In conclusion, Eternals is a movie of many ups and downs. It features an interesting premise; unfortunately, a feature length movie is not the right medium to tell the story they wanted to tell. That being said, I enjoyed watching the movie. It’s not a very good movie, but it’s not the worst Marvel movie ever. It’s a million times better than Thor 1 and 2 and a few other MCU movies.

I will be rating this movie 6/10.

The Tragedy of Macbeth (2021)

Had some stunning cinematography and acting, but I'm not a big fan of Shakespeare, so this didn't appeal to me much.

Eternals: 3.5/4 stars

Contrary to critics' review, I really dug this flick.

One because Ikaris reminded me of Henry Cavill's Superman and then the visually appealing special effects.

Liked the druig dude!

Hope they come with the same vibe in the sequel.
