Good morning everyone. I drive a 2008 sienna xle limited awd. For about a week or so, I noticed each time am about to accelerate when engaged in drive, I hear a dull thud from d rear of d vehicle. Initially I thought maybe it was d jack that fell. It continued. So I got to a place and I removed d spare, jack and everything in d booth and d sound was still there.
Pls what could be d problem as I just don't want to take it to a mechanic just yet without having a slight knowledge of what is wrong.
Please car expert and enthusiast help a brother.

It usually happen to my lexus too if I had initially accelerate with the emergency brakes on.

What I use to do is engage the emergency brake and disengage again it will stop after few minutes drive.

Awd check your axle, your fluid may be low or need replacing

Quantity and recommended fluid type is in the screen shot I uploaded. Pray that's the issue.

. Thanks for this info. May I ask 2 questions?
1. Is there a way d quantity can be measured as it is now?
2. What if d issue has nothing to d with d fluid type or quantity

1. The crude way would cause contamination, draining and then refilling with the drained fluid.

2. Your problem can't be pinpoint without proper diagnosis. You still need a mechanic to diagnose where the sound is coming from, legs, axle, propeller, transmission etc. But thud, vibration from rear of most AWD is as a result of axle issues and the easiest fix is to change the axle fluid first and observe

been to my mechanic for diagnosis and he said something about auxiliary gear responsible for making that noise.
what do u make of this?

He has not said anything but just saying axle is the problem. Auxiliary is your axle, connecting rod so change transmission fluid and check the axle for leaks, rust or defects.

Ok boss.
Experienced something about d vehicle this evening, after my mechanic finished fitting d supposed problematic axle, I drove off to take it to d place he recommended to me. I drove this vehicle for over 2 hrs and I didn't hear d sound. Can u please explain to me.
