China has restricted smaller cities in the country from building "super high-rise buildings", as part of a larger bid to crack down on vanity projects.

The country is home to some of the world's highest buildings, including Shanghai Tower, which has 128 floors.

Local reports also questioned the need for low-density cities to build skyscrapers, suggesting they were built for vanity and not practicality.

There is already an existing ban on buildings taller than 500 metres.

I can tell you now skyscrapers sites not make economic sense. Yes in 20th century but not in 21st century.

That was 20th century game between powerful nations fight for suprimacy, cos then having the tallest building was a will over others not in 21st century.

Which leaders are chasing relics? If a private or public entity see the need to erect a skyscraper, how can the president/government interfere with such a project? That's despotism.

Isn't it odd that some developers come to do projects that are no longer being done world wide, I believe governments sets direction on what kinda developments it needs in the country
