A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State, Chidi Wihioka, has accused the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, of attempting to change the history of Ikwerre people because of his presidential ambition.

Wihioka, who is a loyalist of Magnus Abe, alleged that Amaechi has been telling Nigerians that Ikwerre people are Igbos because he wants to become president.

The former member of the House of Representatives was speaking at an event held in Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state on Sunday.

He insisted that Ikwerre people are not Igbo, saying they have their own history and culture.

He said, “This is a man that wants to turn the history of Ikwerre land and said Ikwerre is Igbo. We are ashamed of him. Ikwerre can never be Igbo.

“We have our history and we have our record. You cannot rewrite our record because you want to be president. If you want to be something your brothers and sisters would know. As far as we are concerned, we have not given any approval to whoever that is talking about him.”

Meanwhile, Amaechi has not declared any interest to run for the presidential election in 2023.

Can an Igbo man claim Ikwerre ?

Some people should stop twisting things, there are Ikwerres that identify as Igbos, and there are those who do not. To each their own

The current Deputy President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo is an Ikwerre man called Ihunwo Obi Wali

The immediate past Secretary General of Ohanaeze was another Ikwerre man, Uche Okwukwu

Amaechi never said Ikwerres are Igbo. He only said that he himself is an Igbo man.

Is Chidi Wihioka a kindergarten that he can't understand such a direct statement?

I keep asking, of what significance is Ikwerre of four local government areas to Igbo land?
Does it change us not to be one of most populous tribe in Africa?
Does it make us not to be one of the most successful tribe in Africa?
Does it change the fact that at mention of Igbo secession Britain and Nigeria will not shiver?

Let the Ikwerre Igbo aborigines remain and the Bini migrants should return wherever they are coming from.

These "Ikwerre" people or whatever they call themselves should grow up and stop dragging the name "Igbo" to their pathetic existence.
They are just behaving like all those senseless wives that call for divorce but won't let the ex husband live in peace after it. They say they are not Igbo but 95% of their lives is dedicated to monitoring Igbo afairs.

Only very few goes with first name as "Michael", "Darlington" or other colonial names yet you don't want to be Igbo and you can't let Igbo people be.

They do not speak Eboe dialect.They speak Ikwerre Language

Both languages Eboe and Ikwerre have the same root. So No one can say the names are Eboe or belong to Eboes why not say Eboes bear Ikwerre names

Lol.....how can a man named Chidi Iheoka say that he's not igbo. Well if i have a learnt anything from Nigerian politics, it is that people can change/deny his family for political gains.
