I was telling him that Nyeka and Onyeka is dialect difference, just like Ondo say Uyo and general yoruba say Ayo, Ayo ni moyo, is uyo ni meyo in ondo dialect.

That being said, the truth is that the so called "delta igbos" and upland rivers, from Ikwere, igbo-etche, ogba (omoku), ndoni, asa/ndoki (obigbo) are igbos, opbo is too mixed.

Their culture and tongue and practices are igbo, but then you cant force people into a fold, so people should let them be, but then, the funny thing is that they too dont allow the people among them who recognise themselves as igbo to be freely igbo, so both sides are just crazy.

As far as I am concerned, you you say you are not igbo then you are not, no need to argue

Why should I take a political statement over an official profile?
At the beginning of his career, his profile shows he is an ikwerre stock. That was the same profile he has used up his political ladder. Till date, he has not modified it to suit the ibo narratives.

I read somewhere that after the civil war, Ikwerres leaders fought and won that Ikwerre be recognised as a distinct ethnic group due to civil war sentiments against Igbo. For official purposes, Chibuike Amaechi will have to put that he is Ikwerre. However, not all Ikwerres think the Ikwerre people are distinct. Many Ikwerres from the Elele/ Omarelu axis that Chibuike Amaechi comes from believe they are as Igbo as anyone else.

The problem with Ikwerre people is that theres a lot of ethnic confusion amongst them and this can be seen in what the Last 3 Ikwerre Governors of Rivers State said-

Chibuike Amaechi says he is an Igbo man

Nyesome Wike says he is not an Igbo man, but a descendant of Bini migrants

The Celestine Omehia says Ikwerre are neither Bini nor Igbos but descendants of a common father called 'Iwhuruoha'

Ikwerre people should go and sort out the ethnic confusion that has engulfed them

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State, Chidi Wihioka, has accused the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, of attempting to change the history of Ikwerre people because of his presidential ambition.

Wihioka, who is a loyalist of Magnus Abe, alleged that Amaechi has been telling Nigerians that Ikwerre people are Igbos because he wants to become president.

The former member of the House of Representatives was speaking at an event held in Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state on Sunday.

He insisted that Ikwerre people are not Igbo, saying they have their own history and culture.

He said, “This is a man that wants to turn the history of Ikwerre land and said Ikwerre is Igbo. We are ashamed of him. Ikwerre can never be Igbo.

“We have our history and we have our record. You cannot rewrite our record because you want to be president. If you want to be something your brothers and sisters would know. As far as we are concerned, we have not given any approval to whoever that is talking about him.”

Meanwhile, Amaechi has not declared any interest to run for the presidential election in 2023.
