That is what people don't understand.

Their confusion is judging from gabaski's save to keep Egypt in the game ( criteria one)
If Egypt had gone on to win the match at open play, then 'criteria one' will be justified.

Mendy made some crucial saves at open play both at knockout stages and finals (criteria one)
Let's pretend we don't know the outcome of the finals.... Criteria one is not sufficient.

Mendy saved a penalty to give the advantage of the last mane strike (criteria 2)

Mendy's criteria one can now be added to criteria two since we know the outcome..

Therefore Mendy is the best keeper of the tournament
Trash. Tell modric that one in 2018 world cup or Messi in 2014

No correlation whatsoever!

Jayjay okocha on Mendy award

"I think that award must have been given to him because of the number of clean sheets he kept in this tournament. He kept five clean sheets in this tournament."

“He’s a championship winner for you if you don’t concede goals you give yourself the possibility of winning matches.

“And when it matters the most he saved that penalty to give his nation the opportunity to score the winner. For me, yes we’ve seen a lot of good goalkeepers in the tournament but deservingly, he’s the keeper of the tournament.

How I wish it's possible, let this Gabaski change nationality and become a Nigerian, then we dash Egypt all our four useless goalkeepers including Instagram okoye.

In my own opinion, presently, Gabaski is better than Gianluigi Donnarumma and Mendy combined together.

Not really juju sha... saw an image on FB where the water bottle actually contains the possible players of Senegal who took the spot kicks and where they were likely to shoot the ball...

He started 3 matches and he was outstanding in ALL THREE..
3 out of 7 matches and you want to give him the best goalkeeper? You can as well give it to Okoye for the 3 group matches.

I guess you guys didn’t know more about those Egyptians and their tricky ways. Could you believe they have all the Senegalese penalties taker names and their directions on a bottle water and give to their goalkeeper. But God never fails Senegalese were crown African champions… like and comment for the full video
Exactly.. even the coaches tantrums and Salah being offered a whistle to ref all irks alot of people.

You are just rambling..

Since when is winning a competition the criteria for choosing a Best player of the tournament award?

The Final you are talking ABOUT,how Mendy made some crucial saves..

Gabaski WON THE MAN OF THE MATCH AWARD!

YOU are talking about saving Penalties?

What have Gabaski been doing all Tournament long?

Being the Best Goalkeeper of the Tournament..

And being the Best Goalkeeper in the TOURNAMENT..

Is not one and the same thing..

Gabaski was the BEST GOALKEEPER IN THE TOURNAMENT..

Mendy won BEST GOALKEEPER OF THE TOURNAMENT..

BECAUSE he was Mendy AND his team won!!

Mendy is FIFA best goal keeper and he is from Africa. So CAF which is under FIFA felt that someone who is best in the world is actually the best in his continent.

That is why they gave him the award which they called "continental best goal keeper"

Remember that FIFA president was around, so CAF must do everything to please him.

Also Edourd Mendy actually merit the award after his penalty save helped Senegal to win the trophy.

Gabaski was outstanding, but his efforts did not make Egypt win the trophy, so he can't actually be the best.

The focus is on the person whose efforts landed his team the trophy and the person is Mendy.

So CAF knows what it's doing. Before we think of the impressive performance of Gabaski, CAF already thought of it but by their wisdom, they gave him the man of the match but not the best goalkeeper because he didn't help Egypt win the tournament.

He didn't start the tournament with the team but came in as a substitute and was at a point also substituted.

So he cannot really be the best in the wisdom of CAF.

Don't forget that CAF also has wise people the same way those people who are posting online believe they are wise.
They gave Mendy because of his five clean sheets in the tournament helping his team to win the trophy. Rarely will they give best goalkeeper of a tournament to a losing team. Forget all the long story.

Lol.. grin

Gabaski played FOUR MATCHES..

Mendy played FIVE MATCHES..

Now tell me again how you have to play in ALL the matches before you win Best player? shocked

Mendy actually kept lots of clean sheet out of the whole keepers . That is the reason why he was given the award . When you keep clean sheet , you give your team the opportunity of not only winning , but remaining in the tournament.
