and where did you see violent agitation? And I was correct about you. Either SW or Northerner. You are the only group that can write this epistle of living together. Because it is favouring you.
The north and the south west don't have what it takes to be on their own their economies are deeply connected to the SS/SE regions that's why majority of them will always speak against the disintegration of nigeria.

And later boast about how glorious Lagos is. If not for the loop sided nature of Nigeria why would one state be the only one with a sea port when states in the Niger Delta are close to the sea? The reason why the North especially was amalgamated with the south was just to slow the progress of the south. Simple. Because I don't understand why a region would have held on to power the most but are the most useless.

first of all, Adamawa State is more diverse than both the UK and India combined. The SS,SE,SW can never ever make progress with the 1999 constitution that was created by the NORTH to continue to hold everyone down and take us backwards. Before the coup, these regions made tremendous progress. So I don't know how you see or view your own things. Imagine having to build and airport and then giving it to the FG how stupid is that? You cannot build and manage a port, you cannot create your own electricity, you cannot even manage your resources. Some of you people who support this dead contraption are unbelievable. And I have this feeling you are from the North or SW. But North is what my guts is telling me. Any time I discuss with a friend from the North this is how they speak. Can't you people think of being alone and having your own country?
Quit that "can't you people think of being alone" nonsense. The only people that can't think of being alone is you people. You people just can't stay alone in your villages, you must live among other people in order to survive. How many Yorubas, Itsekiris, Ijaws, Binis do you find in Sokoto, Daura, Adamawa, or even Enugu, Abia or Ebonyi? Yes the Fulanis are all over Nigeria selling cows and riding Okada, but they are no where near the number of igbos all over every hamlet in Nigeria. So who do you think would lose should the country break up and everyone is asked to return to his village?

Just because you guys are terrible political strategists and lost politically, you want to cut the baby in half, not minding that the baby and even you might not survive the dismemberment. Take a cue from what is happening in Ukraine right now and what happened to all former Soviet Republic countries that split from Russia.

The problem with Nigeria is the same problem in each of our individual families - Greed, selfishness and inability to compromise. Until we learn to be selfless and patriotic, we can never have peace and development even if we divide the country into our individual clans.

Lagos was created before the creation of Nigeria. Lagos was given special status by the colonialists and was even removed and governed separately from western Nigeria. Lagos ports was and still is, the easiest port to access directly from the sea. You don't need to navigate any inland river to access Lagos ports. You need to dredge and constantly maintain the dredging to make the inland ports navigatable.
Yes I believe the government should develop the other ports of the Niger Delta and indeed our Olu made that demand when he visited Buhari last week, but the problem with our governments is that they are all lazy. They are not ready to spend the effort and money to make the other ports navigatable.

Lol, I'm an egba man from Abeokuta. There is no need to balkanize the country, restructuring is the way to go instead of pursuing all this violent agitations that leads to a dead end. Anyway i lived in Britain for more than twenty years and on getting back to Nigeria,I found Nigerians extremely dishonest, perfidious, selfish, superstitious, lacking self control, arrogant empty and scurrilous,in fact they lack nation building qualities. As far as I'm concerned a Nigerian graduate is equivalent to a Briton with a G.C.S.E certificate. That has been my experience
Abeg helep me ask them, before the British amalgamated the igbo clans, were they a nation or a region? Why not ask to bulkanize to pre colonial times. The same people forcing Ikwerre and Anioma to join them are advocating for everyone to go their own way. Is that not a paradox?

Dismemberment in these times would be a tragedy. It would make the smaller and weaker states easy pickings for the major powers (including Iran and Saudi Arabia) as is happening in Ukraine right now. It would set us back 200 years.
What we should be advocating for is a restructuring to make the region's more economically autonomous.

Our people are challenging but let us not indulge in excessive self-hatred - the words in red are quite a handful. There is little to profit from self-hatred. Just as with every people upon the Earth, we have our dark and light sides. In spite of all our wahala, Nigerians rank amongst the most brilliant people in this world and not many nations have as illustrious a diaspora.

"Who will speak for me?" is a thought I often ask myself at my lowest and most depressed, contemplating all my errors in life. I realize, when I contemplate this, that if I dont speak for myself, none will speak for me. Likewise, Nigerians have to speak for Nigeria, or none will speak for us. In spite of all our foibles, we must be our own champions. Speaking ill of ourselves will take us no where. For example I would not want to believe you were pleased that a Nigerian president once went to the UK to concur that Nigeria is fantastically corrupt. Whether or not that is true, that is not the remit of a President. And whether or not that is true, there is no wretched evil we have committed which oyibos have not already previously excelled at.

I tend to cringe when educated or people who claim to be exposed make comments like these. in the statement above which is bold. first of all, the Igbos are predominantly traders so therefore, the tendency to move away from their region to other places where opportunities exist is supposed to be high. The way you wrote it like as if the SE is empty and all the people have left there and moved to other areas. if you must know, Nnewi is known for something which is automobiles parts and mechanical parts. its a thriving area and there are thousands of people there who do business and don't even know that Lagos exist if not for the sea port for them to import their containers. Aba is known for making shoes, and other house hold materials. its a thriving area and there are many of them who have never been to Lagos unless it has o do with the sea port in apapa. there are just two that i know you probably would have heard of. The nature of their business means that they cannot be in one place. Africa has more that 50 countries so if eventually there is a split and our neighbors are hostile, if there are Igbos who want to move out of the region, there are many west African countries that can accommodate them. for you to say that people moving out of their area to another because they cannot stay alone or cannot survive without Nigeria is laughable and comes from a place filled with ignorance. The Jews before the creation of the state of Israel in 1948 were found in Poland, Austria, Germany, France, UK ,USA, south Africa etc. Albert Einstein was a German Jew. they were thriving in these countries because they had something to offer in terms of skills and business. people like you would have said the same thing and discouraged them not to create their own nation because majority of Jew WERE outside their land but they still had a large number their people in Israel. today, Israel is better than Nigeria is all human indices. The Chinese do not stay in their country, they have factories in Lagos and even have a large community. does that mean they cannot survive without Nigeria? china is like a god country to Nigeria. the Lebanese are in different countries of the world, so are the Indians who reside in areas like illupeju Lagos but have countries better than Nigeria in terms of what they have to offer. its so sad that you had give the Fulani's an exception. i am not surprised. that's the bigotry we experience everyday so its not new. the fulanis are predominantly cow herders so there fore they have to go to were their market is. doesn't mean that they cannot survive without Nigeria. They have brothers in Mali chad, and they are doing just fine. Anyone who stays in his state and decides not to move out does not mean their states are like states in America its just that they may not have what to offer the others. The ijaws are fishermen that is why they could be found in areas that are close to the sea. they are not Yoruba's but they are found in ondo state.

Just because you guys are terrible political strategists and lost politically, you want to cut the baby in half, not minding that the baby and even you might not survive the dismemberment. Take a cue from what is happening in Ukraine right now and what happened to all former Soviet Republic countries that split from Russia.
Another ridiculous and laughable statement. how can you be a political strategist when the odds are always not in your favor? unless being a

political strategist to you is to cower in defeat and act like slaves who lost a war. if that's what you want us to be then sorry, it will never happen. your claim to be itsekiri but what exactly have you and your tribe benefited by being better political strategist than the Igbos? this clearly shows your ignorance concerning the reason why Nigeria was created. it was created by the British for the sole purpose of Extraction of our resources. The fulani were giving the mantle of leadership by them. This they did by increasing the landmass, falsifying census results. now you have a people who want to leave union there by disrupting the most productive colony of the British, what do you expect? the demonization of the Igbos by the whole Nigeria would continue to exist because they want to make an example out of the Igbos so that others wont follow suit. how can you as a country fight a war, bring back a region, and always make stupid claims that the reason why you don't want to give them sensitive positions is because they cannot be trusted and because they killed Ahmadu Bello a coup that happened more than 40 years ago. How do you play politics with a people that still hold a grudge?? tell me? you people need to be thinking deeply.

The problem with Nigeria is the same problem in each of our individual families - Greed, selfishness and inability to compromise. Until we learn to selflessness and patriotism, we can never have peace and development even if we divide the country into our individual clans.
The same problem is everywhere not a Nigerian thing. how can you be patriotic to a country that is based on Injustice and wickedness? please, we are Nations. stop spreading this myopic view that Nigeria was meant to be a country. if you want to be a Nigerian, no one will say you should not be but please leave us that don't want to be in tis cursed country. its not by force. its our right to choose whatever we want to be.

The major reason why there ports were left redundant was because of the war with Biafra. The FG ceded Bakassi and stopped the ports because they didn't want the Biafrans to have the ability to wage a war by importing arms through these water ways. so for your ports to work it would take the power of god. go and listen to Obong attahs interview on arise TV and listened to why most of the developments in his state were frustrated.

False narrative. The ports were not functional before the biafran war. My village is 20 minutes away by boat to koko and Sapele port is not far away. The ports were not built by the British by economic considerations. They were built to export Timber from the area. Since the fall of the timber trade, the Sapele port has not been operational.

The governor's are always looking for excuses for their failures. No doubt the FG makes things difficult, but an innovative and selfless governor would achieve some degree of success.

Onitsha slowly grew to become an important trading port for the Royal Niger Company in the mid-1850s following the abolition of slavery

and with the development of the steam engine when Europeans were able to move into the hinterland.

Trade in palm kernels, palm oil, and other cash crops on the coast of the Bight of Biafra increased around this river port in the 19th century.

In 1857 British palm oil traders established a permanent station in the city with Christian missionaries joining them, headed by the liberated

African bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowther (a Yoruba recaptive) and Reverend John Taylor (an Igbo Recaptive).[6]

In 1900 Onitsha became part of a British protectorate.[7] The British colonial government and Christian missionaries penetrated most of

Igboland to set up their administration, schools and churches through the river port at Onitsha.

In 1965, the Niger River Bridge was built across the Niger River to replace the ferry crossing. This has helped to grow trade routes with

western Nigeria and created significant economic linkages between Onitsha and Benin City and Lagos particularly.[8][9]

The Nigerian-Biafran war brought devastation to Onitsha as the city was a major theatre of war for forces entering Biafra from the western

front. The subsequent oil boom years of the 1970s and early 1980s witnessed a huge influx immigrants into the city. The result has been hastily constructed and haphazard building which has created a huge number of slums.

Why and when did igbos become traders - pre colonialization, pre - independence or after the biafra war? Igbos have been migrating, particularly up north before independence and even before amalgamation. What were igbos trading in the early 1900 that made many of them migrate up north?

Igbos region is not conducive for trading. Yes a region is conducive for trading if you are a link or thouroughfare between manufacturers and the market. For example Middle East was/is a link between China (producer) and Europe (market). Same with ancient Venice. Igboland has no advantage whatsoever in trading within west Africa. Even during the slave trade, Calabar, Badagry, Cape coast were the slave trading ports.

I hate it when you guys compare yourselves to the Jews or other people. The histories are very different. The Jews were driven from their land twice. First under Babylon and second under Romans in AD70. They came back after Hitler killed over 6 million of then with the sympathy of the winners of the war. Do you think there would have been an Israel or even jew if Hitler had won the war? The Jews had been under every major super power the world has ever had - Babylon, Egypt, Persia, Rome, British.

The Lebanese were involved in a bitter civil war that saw mass migration to other parts of the world.

How many Chinese are in Nigeria compared to the general population? How many Chinese want to migrate to Nigeria. I am sure there are more igbos in China than chinese in the whole of Nigeria.

Yes Africa has more than 50 countries, but how many are ready to accommodate igbos - Ghana, Cameroon, South Africa, Morocco. Igbos generally don't get along with their host communities for one reason or the other. I doubt many countries would be ready to take in mass migration of igbos, particularly if all they intend doing is trade.

I am not excusing Fulanis. I am only pointing out that Fulanis are nomads and they follow water and grazing routes of their cows and the markets.

While getting the inland port at Onitsha operational is a very good economic plan, making it happen is very complicated and costly. Firstly, It was not built to accommodate container ships, it was built by the British to move primary produce to the sea, by steam boats. Those boats were nowhere big as container ships of today. To make the river accommodate container ship would require extensive dredging to expand the depth and width of the river. To do that you guys have to negotiate with your brother - the Ijaws. Abacha attempted to dredge the river to Onitsha but was stopped by the Ijaws.

You're absolutely right about Japan and the fact that Igboland has enough lands to sustain its population even in the next 100 years.

However, there is a mix-up in your analysis. You referred to SE whereas your map is showing Igboland, two different things! Igboland both in the geopolitical SE and SS is actually over 40,000 square kilometers!

About the fate of Nigeria, I think nature is already taking its course. There is chaos everywhere yet we haven't reached the peak. The North has sunk into barbarism with killings and destruction everywhere. The West has descended into ritualism and debauchery. The same thing is happening in East as an uprising is threatening the peace of everyone. In the Niger Delta, deadly cancerous and organ damaging venture called kpofire is slowly destroying lives en mass. Whichever direction you look, Nigeria is in flames.

Then the leaders in Abuja are gradually finding themselves in a cul-de-sac as revenue dries up and Chinese loans stopped by the creditors after seeing we no longer have the capacity to pay back. Now, it is about to get messier as they look towards Uncle Sam. The West or its organizations can never give out loans without attaching conditions to it. The number condition they're instructing them is to remove fuel subsidy. The second one is to increase taxation.

Fuel is already very expensive to the average man in the street, if the subsidy is removed now, the price will double and with disposable income already flat, only very few can afford to buy it. Smaller businesses will collapse, inflation will spike, unemployment will skyrocket, insecurity will become rampant etc.

The federal government is already running out of funds and can't wait to remove subsidy but are afraid of the backlash on the other hand, without the loans, government functions may collapse too, so they're between the rock and a hard place.

What will then cause the total collapse of Nigeria is when a Northern president succeeds Buhari because that's when the South will finally unite to counter waves of insecurity from the North.

The peoples of south-eastern Nigeria have been involved in trade for as long as there are any records. The archaeological sites at Igbo-Ukwu and other evidence reveal long distance trade in metal and beads, as well as regional trade in salt, cloth, and beads at an early date. The lower Niger River and its Delta featured prominently in this early trade, and evidence is offered to suggest a continuity in the basic modes of trade on the lower Niger from c. A.D. 1500 to the mid-nineteenth century. An attempt to sketch the basic economic institutions of the Igbo hinterland before the height of the slave trade stresses regional trading networks in salt, cloth, and metal, the use of currencies, and a nexus of religious and economic institutions and persons. It is argued that while the growth of the slave trade appears to have been handled without major changes in the overall patterns of trade along the lower Niger, in the Igbo hinterland a new marketing ‘grid’, dominated by the Arochuku traders, was created using the pre-existent regional trading networks and religious values as a base.
Even during the slave trade, Calabar, Badagry, Cape coast were the slave trading ports.

chaii! never have i been so exausted just reading the opinion that someone has for Igbos. grin grin grin Igbo regionn is not conduicive for trading yet we had a market that is the bigeest in Nigeria were people from other west african countries came to buy goods from?

Main Market, Onitsha[1] is the one of the largest markets in West Africa based on geographical size and volume of goods.[2] It is based in the city of Onitsha, the commercial capital of Anambra State in southeastern Nigeria.
The market is governed by one of the most revered traders associations on the continent, the Onitsha Market Traders Association (OMATA). Most of the major import merchants from Eastern Nigeria have their head offices within the market. The average traders in the area are known to bring in at least six consignments of 40 tonnes (40-feet containers) of goods annually. Some of the major importers do more than 200 consignments of 40 tonnes of goods per year. These include jewelry, clothing, household, industrial and office equipment.
It is bounded by the River Niger to the West and Fegge through Osumaru Road from the East. The market is secured by the Onitsha Main Market Vigilante Services working under the auspices of the Nigeria Police Force. The market can rightfully be described as the commercial power house of West Africa. It is massively patronized by merchants in the ECOWAS sub-region including Accra, Abidjan, Douala, Niamey and Cotonou and elsewhere on the continent, to mention a few.

I am only pointing out that Fulanis are nomads and they follow water and grazing routes of their cows and the markets.
you have just been making me laugh.. grin so all what the Fulanis do is follow grazing routes huh grin
While getting the inland port at Onitsha operational is a very good economic plan, making it happen is very comply and costly. Firstly, I was not built to accommodate container ships, it was built by the British to move primary produce to the sea, by steam boats. Those boats are nowhere big as container ships of today. To make the river accommodate container ship would require extensive dredging to expand the depth and width of the river. To do that you guys have to negotiate with your brother - the Ijaws. Abacha attempted to dredge the river to Onitsha but was stopped by the Ijaws.

You are just being slippery. when i catch you here or explain to you here, you create an entirely new topic and start writing grammar.
i gave you examples using Chinese, Jews, Lebanese but someone you stuck with just the Jews. my guy, you don't like Igbo people. its very obvious. you have given excuses to those who do exactly the same thing Igbos do but you give them lames excuses and whatever Igbo people do or say is bad. i know your type, i have seen your type and you will continue to exist. But the funny thing is that we would always continue to progress whether you believe it or not. choose whatever you want to believe. but what you cannot hide is your obvious bias. SO THERE IS NOTHING GOOD THAT YOU HAVE SEEN IN IGBO LAND AND FROM THE IGBOS? TO YOU WE ARE JUST HOPELESS AND USELESS AND SO STUPID THAT IF WE DECIDE TO HAVE OUR OWN COUNTRY WE WOULD DIE OFF LIKE FLIES BECAUSE WE SO MUCHH DEPEND ON OTHERS?? I WONT REPLY YOU AGAIN. HTERE IS REALLY NO POINT. SAD I WASTED MY TIME REPLYING YOU. WE WOULD HAVE JUST INSULTED OUSELVES FROM THE BEGGINING grin

Why and when did igbos become traders - pre colonialization, pre - independence or after the biafra war? Igbos have been migrating, particularly up north before independence and even before amalgamation. What were igbos trading in the early 1900 that made many of them migrate up north?

The ijaws won't agree to the Niger Delta getting dredge, it will lead to the destruction of marine life, environment and the Creeks in the delta

Even if our behavior is that of North Korea..don't we deserve to be left alone.

But do they have the same culture, integrity and self control that Japan is well known for.
