People would rather damn the consequences as long as the movies protrays the shortest route to making money is through ritualism. They would be fascinated by the thrill on the face of their celebrity actor throwing money up the air than any punishment that may come after.

Kanayo O Kanayo and Asaba Nollywood movies should share a part of the blame. They glorify blood money and ritual killing as a means to high social status. The plot of the movies is mostly about a poor village man who after being mocked and scorned by family and friends, decides to join a cult of wealthy men with the demand that he donates either his beloved mother or wife in exchange for riches.
At least they go a long way to show us the end of those ritualists aren't always good so how on earth do they glorify ritual killing please?

No doubt, politicians should be blamed first for unemployment, poverty, and the devastated state of the economy in the country.

And Nollywood also has its own share of the blame. There's absolutely no scientific proof of ritual efficacy, and yet Nollywood continiously depicts it as potent!

Both the government and Nollywood can effect positive changes in this country if they do the right thing.

I don’t think it’s Nollywood. Who Dey watch those kind movies these days seff? It’s those comedy skits and people saying as jokes that’s making ritual look like a normal thing in our society. Imagine that 14 year old boy saying it in a video that he sees spirits, etc., making it seem sweet, easy and normal; that’s ten times the influence of ten nollywood movies combined.

The most annoying one is when people tell you that you’re a ritualist because you got something that’s less than 2k, and keep on asking who you used, it’s insane.

Yeah, and another one is the new kind of churches we’re having in Nigeria. It’s crazy out there cry

Kids of 16-18 in the US pull out a gun and leave their school mates drop dead and some with injuries just because a John Wick acted it. A teenager was motivated to pull a robbery stunt because a Zubby Michael acted it in movies.

Better stop hiding your head in the sand and face the reality staring you in the face.
How about the corruption script the political class as acting for the society? That one is even a worse and reality show. They will not say that one is motivating scammers because the society is divided between us and them.

Although there are several factors that make people engage in criminality, Whether we like it or not, movies do influence people to adopt criminal tendencies.

Both Government and Nollywood are equally culpable. The Government created the problem of extreme poverty. Nollywood proferred the solution to the problem as ritual killing. If Nollywood wants to absolve herself from the narratives, why the so much emphasis on ritual as the major way to escape poverty in majority of their plots?

Every society is made up of rational and irrational beings. While the rationals can discern the difference, can we vouch for the irrational heads? Of course, ritual killings have existed since the 1970s, but social media did not exist then. So information is quickly disseminated in this era and has a wider reach.
Are they telling us that without ritual plots in their movies, Nollywood has nothing else to offer?

Movies aren't entirely to blame for gun violence but they do in their way influence such behaviours

Nonsense tail...if you blame Nollywood for ritual killings, who will you blame for the Kidnappings in the North and highways, rape on women and children, Armed robbery, and Yahoo or corruption. Come to think of it most mainstream Nollywood movies these days is about falling in love our heartbreak.

Not exactly accurate. Nollywood moves that portrays blood money or yahoo money spend very little time portraying the sad/disastrous endings. They spend 40% of the time showing how much poverty and suffering the main character passed through. They then spend another 40% of the time showing the enjoyments and benefits the blood money brings the main character. Finally they spend less than 3 to 5 minutes showing the main character going mad, terminally sick or dying.

The enjoyment scene stays more in the minds of viewers that the brief sufferings scenes the main characters were subjected to.
In the west where most Violent films (Rambo, Al Pacino et al) produced, the populace have not suddenly gone aggressive and violent also Nigerians have less access to Nollywood because of Nepa.

what are you even saying? Money Heist is a movie about breaking and entering the bank vault with the purpose of stealing money. So tell me, how many banks have been broken in Spain since the release of the movie? Take responsibility and fix the country. Simple

Which populace have suddenly not gone aggressive? Certainly you are not talking about US populace with periodic mass shootings and high gun related deaths.

what do you mean by Nigerians have less access to Nollywood because of Nepa? Are you insinuating that Nigerians don't have access to electricity at all or that TVs in the homes of most Nigerians are there only for decoration?
You mean most Nigerians were unable to watch Nollywood movies from 1980s till date?
