You've made very valid points, but it's important to note that even with meters some community have zero to little power in weeks because of abysmal grid supply for such solar minigrid is the way to go. But this is Naija you've got to know someone high up to meet with the job criteria rottennaija: |

olopan:The communities have zero to no power because discos are not expanding. Discos cannot expand because they don't have the money to, discos cannot even provide the meters to generate the money to expand. The FG should just change their policies. If you check well, discos sell single phase meters at 63k but this meters actually should cost 14k. Sohow many people can afford 63k? But millions can get a 14k meters (or 20k for the gprs meters). I can confidently tell you that if NERC allows meters to be imported into the country, the price ranges between 14-16k, many people wil buy these meters, install them, estimated billings which people are not happy to pay stops. The discos will see the money to expand, the rural communities will see the energy as they pay what they consume. |

olopan:It's the smart thing to do. Imagine if the telecom industry were operating the way discos are operating. For example, if regulations mandated only the telecom companies to supply (either manufacture or import) to Nigerians as Nitel was doing, they would be no growth in the sector. We would still be stuck on gprs era. |

BrandSpurNG:Wait how much did Ghana use in fixing stable power supply in their country? They’re here talking trash some Nigerians are buying into it, if the government address power supply why should they spend so much in funding solar projects? Rather than fixing the power supply, discos companies are buying very little power to supply their customer’s or users instead of buying enough |

These kind of projects are under Economic Sustainability Program(post COVID-19 stimulus package), under the watch of Osinbajo funded by CBN. The project cost is more than N3trillion which include housing scheme for the poor (not the one under FMoWH), solar projects and Entrepreneurship support schemes. All these projects are obviously more on paper than in reality and at the end of this tenure Emifele will destroy the good reputation of VP. |
