Let us not be emotional. There are rules to these things and perhaps some good lawyer.

- If there is an intention to cheat, you get 4 years.

- If you show reason(s) that it was done out of negligence or you had no direct faults, you get one year.

I will give an example, Andre Onana: He had a headache and took paracetamol drugs meant for his wife, without knowing the brand had some banned substances, he was subsequently banned for 9 months but that is football, In athletics, the least is a year. He even took the doctors to his house to show them the drugs he took before they called his attention that those drugs looked alike but were different from the brands he should have taken.

- If you can show you had no fault and the drug is one of the WADA's contaminated substances, you get two years.

Again, if you are discovered to have taken multiple prohibited substances, you can get more than 4 years, I.e. more than one substance laced with another shows a deliberate plan to cheat.

Okagbare's own was 'multiple prohibited substances' and it was something she took with a regimen that is to say....intention to cheat.

When she was called to testify and co-operate, she refused to show up till date. She was asked to turn in her phone, she also refused. The man, Lira who gave her those drugs was caught in the US and all the messages between himself & Okagbare was intercepted. It was obviously clear, they were in on it all this while.

She will get a reduced sentence if she goes to CAS but nothing less than 8 years. Marion Jones did it the same way and got a life ban and lost all 5 medals, and was in Federal Prison for sometime.

For Tyson Gay, he took an anabolic steroid and was supposed to be banned for two years but he co-operated. His Olympic medal stripped off him. He mentioned Companies, athletes, location and everybody he knew was involved. He got a year, many still feel he could have gotten more though.
