My Projects As A Software Developer by debbie(f): 4:26pm On Feb 22, 2022 |
Few years ago when i started my career as a software developer, I was able to build a few personal projects before going further to gain more skills. I was just going through my folders and found some of them. Remember the hosting for frontend is done on netlify and backend hosted on Heroku. Some of the stacks involved are React .JS MaterialUI Bootstrap HTLM5 CSS3 Python/Django JSS Webserver- gunicorn jQuery UI Animate CSS Google font API Ionicons Lightbox Isotope Some APIs And other JavaScript libraries and tools Hosting a backend project can be tough especially working with python. But the most important thing is to consistently grow your skills and be ready for work. 1. A movie App- You can search for any movies or series you like. https://movies-series-apps.netlify.app/ 2. A weather app- you can search for any location in real time https://weather-reporting.netlify.app/ 3. A property listing project- built largely with python/django for backend http://debbie-realestate.herokuapp.com/ 4. A simple demo project for a company https://energio.netlify.app/ Dont despise the days of your little beginning....keep growing. This is an encouragement to anyone out there struggling to get your foot down. If as a mother with children I could grow my career there is nothing limiting you. When I look back I smile . 28 Likes 6 Shares

debbie:Private repo? If I may ask, why? How would potential employers see your code? Why are you paying for a private repo when you're just learning? How would others contribute to your code? Just why? |

GitHub commit is not the only means to access ones competence. I choose projects to make public and all. All these small projects doesn't need contribution. Simple HTML,css, and JavaScript....unless it is a big project that requires complexity. TheManOfTheYear: 2 Likes |

Not everyone is cutout fully into open source contribution... though it is a good way to grow and show your skills. Maybe over time I will catch the vibes 2 Likes |

debbie:Whether you like it or not, most recruiters would always use GitHub commits as one of the parameters for judging applicants. Unless you've gotten enough experience and now a Senior. My advice though |

tensazangetsu20: .... there isn't so much to it though ... It has more to do with experience, also skills but mainly experience and she meets that from what I can see. I might be wrong though 1 Like |

@debbie Do you have young Nigerian females in tech that you mentor? It's a crazy world out there for a lot of females trying to get into tech in Nigeria with a lot of males literally insinuating that they are dumb and unworthy of working in tech or for the more daring males, outrightly saying they offered their bodies to get tech roles. It would be great to have experienced and successful Nigerian female techs like you mentoring younglings coming through. I'm a male old-school tech and I am really saddened how the young male techs denigrate their female counterparts. The tech space in Nigeria has to be "softened" from its current "bone-to-bone" men's club to a gender friendly club 2 Likes 1 Share |

tensazangetsu20: Aswear! People actually think being a senior is equivalent to the number of years you've been coding. You can code for 10years and still be mid level or entry level. Senior na hierarchy wey dey exist only in an organisation. |
Re: My Projects As A Software Developer by Schoolshooter: 11:03am On Jan 03 |
niel63: Kek Being a senior means you're very good and better than most devs in the field When you talk Senior devs , I mean people like lennart poettering, Dylanraps, Linus Torvalds etc |
