Their charges are commensurate with economic realities. No need for comparison here. You can't because American charge 20k n come here and replicate the same

In the UK you can get a train service for a 45-minute trip for as low as £8 compared to the minimum wage per hour of £9. In Nigeria, what's the minimum wage per day? And what's the cost of a train ticket for a similar journey?
I laugh when people compare a fourth world country with a developed country.

So complain about salaries being too low! That's a different conversation, but all things considered the train fares are cheap. What I'd like is for the speed to increase.

Don't be ridiculous. In Nigeria, Warri to Itakpe (5 hours journey) is N3000.. Which is 10% of our minimum wage. How much is a 5 hour train ride in the UK?

It's probably only 5 hours because it's so damn slow though. Manchester to London is about 2 hrs or 2.3hrs. Not sure warri to Itakpe its much further than that

Is 3000 10% of the hourly minimum wage in Nigeria?

Exactly! Salaries are too low in Nigeria that even low income earners cannot afford the trains.

Lol. Nigeria has a long way to go but if the country can progress then it'd be good to copy the model of some of these advanced countries and put it to appropriate use in the Nigerian situation

Baseless comparison. It is the fastest train that takes 2 hours and their tickets are around £50 pounds if you book 30 days in advance.. Booking tickets on the day of your travel costs more. How many Nigerians can afford £50 for a 2 hour journey?

I don’t care. I use trains in sane countries. I don’t want to imagine how a journey here will go.

They have come with this subsidy again.
This is the most appropriate comment so far on this thread.

Subsidies are a guarantee for corruption. It's well known that bribes have to be paid to secure tickets on Nigeria Railway.

When any government service is cheap and subsidized, the government employees will demand bribes from customers. It's basically the same thing with government owned universities, the official prices are too low and so students must pay bribes to get admission or pass exams.

Subsidies are destructive. Most Nigerians simply don't understand the issue.

What the man said is the simple truth. You cannot fight the truth; that N2600 which you say people cannot afford is an actually an extremely subsidised amount. TRUE or FALSE?

Yet Lagos to Ibadan by road is far cheaper than train this govt. took Chinese loans to build.. I doubt if these people go outside to see things for themselves other than just churning out rubbish to the press.
Trains are far more expensive than roads all over the world.
