Scientists studied the difference between SARS-CoV and SARS-CoV-2-there are several key letter changes in the genetic code. However, in computer simulations, the mutation in SARS-CoV-2 does not seem to help the virus to bind to human cells well. If scientists deliberately designed this virus, they would not choose a mutation that a computer model indicated would not work. But it turns out that nature is smarter than scientists. Research has found that the new coronavirus has found a better way to mutate-and completely different-unlike anything that scientists can create. |
